ESM 82" Hawker Hurricane

Hello Ray, you always seem to come with some intriguing or novel mod for this bird. lol
Did you hand carve the new exhaust or is it some accessory you bought form another source ?
I have been actually working on my project and have stripped the top of the wing and going to start marking and making the detail, rivets panel lines etc, I have the pilot figured out now and hve him done. Wished I knew how to post pictures here.
Keep posting. I enjoy it !!!

G'day Terry ...
The exhaust stacks were purchased from Real Model Pilots out of the UK.
Great service and will supply them to your required dimensions ... They really are a big improvement over the original kit items !!
Sounds as though you will have a real show stopper when your Hurricane is done !!
I took the easy way around and detailed the wing with graphite pencil .... looks O.K.
Wishing you every success with your build !!!
Ray.

Ray,
Putting on the detail is a learning thing for me, will be the first time I have ever done this type of work on a model.
I checked out the Real Pilots site interesting, but not sure the prices, what did you give for those exhaust you got ? I agree with you that they are a major improvement over the stock in kit ones.
Thanks
Terry

Ray, I see you did the same thing I am doing with the tail wheel. Like DragnHart, I was wondering about the lights myself, I was thinking of using a 3/4 dowel and make it to shape and try to somehow make the light like what you have there. What did you use for the light ? The reason for having removed the insignia on the top of the wing is I am doing panel lines and rivets and am also changing the Squadron to look like my Hurricane I am building I will fly.
This what I have so far .

Fellows ...
I have installed two 25mm LED lights from the Braincube Aero-Models range.
I have had good results in some earlier projects with this system.
Will have to complete the glass work for the tail wheel and that should be done !!!
Seems like when you go in and modify any part of the project the build time goes through the roof !!!
Oh well I can see the end of my build not to far away .... Sure hope she flies as good as she looks !!!

Thanks for that info Ray, I didn't realise you could get these units.
- are you doing anything special with the mounting to accommodate the heat?
- I'm presuming you'll run them off a seperate battery to the reciever?
Looking forward to seeing your model complete and I'm focussed back on mine after having a few months break :-)
cheers
Ian

Ian ...
I am powering the lights with a 2 cell 7.4 volt lipo through the flightlights v5.0 controller .
The braincube product is a complete lighting system which I have found to be a very good.
On my earlier projects heat from the operation of the lights has not been a problem.
Highly recommended !!

There is a plastic cover in front of the braincube landing lights. Turn them on, and let them be on for a while. Touch the plastic glass, and they are almost room temperature.
Compare old spot lights with LED spotlights you get nowadays.
Old; 35 W, new 5W. And the same light intensity.
So 30 Watts was heat in the old ones......

I will most likely get the bulbs but not likely have them operational. Getting concerned about Weight. After I put the retracts in the wing it got what seems to me fairly heavy. If the all up weight isn't as much as I suspect it will be, then I will make them operational.
BTW, here is the pilot I will be using, a bit of an old style and don't think they are available anymore, haven't seen them in quite some time. I also figured out how to post pictures--- Hey I'm lurnin !!! lol

Sounds like a good plan Terry ...
I have not had my Hurricane on the scales as yet ... not game !!!
Your pilot figure looks as though he will be ready for the first scramble !!
I like your progress with the wing .... she is going to be quite a project when your done.
Keep those pictures coming !!

Here is a picture of the landing gear legs on my large Hurricane that I just put epoxy primer on. I have two projects going !! lol
The scheme will be the YB-J from the color plate for both Model and one I get in and fly.

Hi Ian,
The one I get in and will fly is a 5/8 Scale Hurricane with a GM V6 engine. The web site to go see what these look like is https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/...os/photostream . It is a construction, the airplane has never flown---yet. It is plans built and all the parts and pieces are hand cut and made.
I have been involved with Warbirds for over 20 years being a judge at the Oshkosh Convention. Also a member of the Replica Fighters Assoc for about as many years.
Thanks for the interest.

Great Scott !!!
Sounds like a sensational project ... 5/8 scale Hurricane !!
I wish you all the best with your build.
I completed my own homebuilt aircraft ... a J6 Karatoo ... in 2005 , so have some idea of your undertaking !!

HI Ray,
Great looking Karatoo !! I have been involved in a build and a rebuild. I helped our EAA Chapter build a Fly Baby and I rebuilt my PA 16 Clipper, long story on the history of this one. I bought it in a basket and put it all back together and did the painting on it. The name is my Daughter and the Caricature fits her very well. The scheme is from a P-51 which the fella I bought the plane from and was a good friend(passed away now) flew that fighter in WWII and was shot down and captured, so I honored him by doing the scheme. The name of his plane was Miss Marilyn.
Thanks for your support.

Ray, I was going to ask you if you had any pics of what you did on your tail wheel. I was looking at mine and the mod I am going to like you did and looks as though I will have to do some major cutting on the fiberglass to get it to fit proper.

Terry ...
I too could not handle the scale look of that wire tail wheel !!
Some fibre glass had to be cut away to allow the installation of a plywood mounting plate.
I have had great success with the DU-BRO tail wheels on some of my earlier projects.
The fairings will now have to be glassed back in place to finish the mod.
I really like the scheme you have chosen for your "Clipper" ...... sensational !!!
