Hey Speeder just line the interior of the wheel well with thin balsa and you can paint it green or grey which ever may be scale

RE: ESM LA-7 From VQ Warbirds

Hey Joe.
While you are working on the wings, think about the dowel pegs that attach the front of the wing into the fuse. If you leave the wheel wells open until later on, you can back drill the holes from the wheel wells through to the fuse. This will make sure the dowel holes will align correctly. Just ensure that the wings are set correctly on the fuse before drilling.

RE: ESM LA-7 From VQ Warbirds

Trev, I mean the RC Bandit customer day on the 4th December. My LA7 has been put on the back burner as I have the following list to complete first:-

ESM 50cc Spitfire build for a customer (progressing nicely)
ESM 50cc Corsair build for Awatoto
1/8 scale SSM Iroquois final detailing
1/8 scale TT Augusta A109 build
Smartmodel Mil24 Hind build
Approach Engineering Apache paint and rivets
Funkey Airwolf repair and re-power
ESM Tigercat final details and re-paint (sometime before I die...)

Luckily there has been crappy windy weather for the last month so I have been in the workshop lots. Will be nice to finally fly something soon....

Will take you up on that offer of stick time on the LA7.

Cheers

RE: ESM LA-7 From VQ Warbirds

No problem Brett,
You should take up flying some day. It is great for stress I believe. LOL.

That is one hell of a work load.

I`m waiting on some more louvers to fit onto the cowl at the moment. The cowl pressurised in flight and pulled forward into the prop. Need more holes to let it breathe. If they don`t arrive in time I will fly it with the large open ports as is.

I hope the weather plays into our hands for the day. We had a superb day there today. I did some practice lolly drops with the telemaster. Neat aircraft to pilot. Managed to get the golf ball to land about 6 feet from where I was standing.
Pete has done a great job on the set up.

Looking forward to the day.

Trev.

RE: ESM LA-7 From VQ Warbirds

Hey n8622t,

What happens in a month?

I have been picking away at my LA-7. The flaps and ailerons are all glued in and three of the 4 wing servos are all fitted with the blocks glued to the hatches.

I had to wait for more servos to arrive as I bought all the HS-5645MG servos the LHS had on the shelf. I now have servo for everything except my throttle. While I was waiting I found some cool titanium turnbuckle pull pull fittings and titanium turnbuckles for control rods on the wing surfaces. I've wanted to try them and this is a good subject to use them on.

http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/TBMLINKT5.5.html

http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/SWBCAF.html

So on my wing control surfaces I'll have a ball joint at the servo and at the surface with a titanium rod in between. No slop anywhere in that set up !!

I'm embarrassed to say I also have a new 53cc Twin sitting here...... I've finally decided to go gas. Ticketec's FW-190 maiden on this engine finally made up my mind. I do have a Laser 300v Twin coming in but that will have to go in another project. It's an awesome engine. But for the LA I wanted the long flight times gas will allow and the simplicity of one mix of fuel for several planes. I'm not usually this flighty, either engine is going to be great, but the Gasser is just a little easier for me right now.

Tomorrow I finish the wings and start the Fuse. I will leave the wheel wells out for now. I plan to use Lado retracts in some fashion. Either actuators or the full retracts so I can do that bit at anytime.

Told you this would be a slow build.

I'll post some pics when I have something interesting to show off.

Joe

Hey n8622t,

I thought the stock mufflers leaked at the welds. Wont the shinny muffler help with that? They also look larger??
