The gear sets are Sierra. They look similar, but are much heavier duty and the ones I have on my Hurricane. I haven't put the gear doors on yet

I think the AUW will be under 20 lbs. It's setup the same as my Hurricane and it came in at just under 19 lbs.

I also added a battery hatch under the cowl and installed a retractable tail wheel.

Jim,

Unfortunately I will need to wait until the following weekend as I am out of town this weekend [:@]

I also need to get two new batteries as mine are getting tired and I want to have good power with this plane. I have two 6S 6500 mah packs ordered and should be here anyday.

I should be able to get a final weight tonight with it fully loaded and ready to fly.

Jeff,
Thanks for getting back to me on this. I think mine will be very cloase to the 20lb mark. I am still waiting for the ESM landing gear. Troy Built shipped them out to me today. It looks like it will be Monday before I can get them. I hope they'll hold up to the 20lbs.

Jim,

The gear should be fine. I have them on my Hurricane (82") one and haven't had an issue with them. I did have them crack on my Me-110, but it was a dead stick landing and hit harder than normal. It didn't do any damage to the plane, but the rails on the gear broke on both sides.

The ones from Sierra are twice as thick and should hold up much better. They also have the gear mounts built into the struts.

I have just finished the assembly of my LA 7 and weighed it. Including the Sierra gear, all servos, rx battery pack, receiver and retract valve but excluding the motor, speed controller, batteries and mount, the plane has an all up weight of 10.5 pounds. I am extremely pleased with this weight and have a hard time seeing how this will come in RTF at anything over 15 pounds. I do plan to run an E-flight 160 with a 10S A123 pack and start with a 2-blade 20x10 APC prop. This should give some pretty decent flight times and provide plenty of power for aerobatics.

The CG came out much farther forward than recommended, so I will need to move some stuff back to get it where it needs to be which is great! It's rare that you need to add weight in the tail on a plane

Check and double check jmohn, ESM have had issues in the past with getting the CG in the correct spot!

I am also in the process of really cutting the wheel wells apart. The mounting rails are located in the wrong orientation. The LA7 had a very pronounced forward rake to the main gear. The ESM model mounts result in a nearly perpendicular strut to the bottom of the wing. I tried but was unable to salvage the wheel well inserts as the correct angle requires quite a bit of grinding of the underlying rib as well as the gear mounting ribs. After re-orienting the gear, I will have to try and lay some wood to tighten up the wheel well opening which now exists as a result of the forward rake.

Of course, none of this is necessary if you are happy with the model out of the box. Having spent so much time studying and building two previous LA 7's, I simply couldn't get comfortable with the incorrect gear stance but to each his own!!

Chad,

I found that their CG is pretty close, but I always move it forward to start with it nose heavy until I get comfortable witht he plane. At worst it will fly like a brick, but it will not crash

I got mine balanced with the flight pack under the wing mounting bolts. It is balanced at about 10 mm forward of the stated CG. It should be fine there for the first flight. I hope to do the maiden flight this weekend.

I had balanced the Hurricane where they stated and it was a little too sensitive in pitch for my taste. I added some nose weight and it's great now. I usually take their numbers and add a little to the nose on all my planes for the first flights just to be safe.

Ok, couldn't get enough weight in the rear of the plane to balance it. I ened up moving the receiver pack to the rear or the plane and adding about 6 oz. of lead to the tail too. It's now ready to go. I have never had to add weight in the tail on a plane before. It ened up weighing just under 20 lbs.

It looks way too clean if you don't do anything to it with this color scheme. If it was camo it wouldn't be a problem, but the white/red look way too clean. It looked more like a model than a plane. Hope it flys well.

The cockpit kit from Ty was awsome too. He did such a great job on it.

Yeah Ty has been hard at work on the Cockpits for these ESM and KMP birds.

I know he is doing even more for the new stuff coming soon.

Yeah I have his DVD for assembling my Miester Fw 190 D9, his Stuka Fuse for the Ziroli kit, and of course the Bf 109F spinner for the CMP kit.

Not to mention he is a nice guy.
