The XYZ 53 is a good little engine I've been running one to break in on a giant stick.... Throw the ignition away and order an rcexl from Agape RC and the engine will be trouble free

I've been running my XYZ 53 in a 1/3 size Eindecker this summer and it's running great....with the stock ignition.

Yes I do, plus an extra undrilled spinner cone and a drilled spinner cone and backplate specifically for the ESM La 7

I would take the spinner/backplate if it fits an XYZ 53 (same as DLE 55)

The prop shaft is 10mm and the bolt circle is 30mm diameter.

How much do you want for the spinner? I can make an adapter for the backplate.

Love me Esm. La.7 it is a stock setup with a Moki. 180 and flies and drives perfect no nasty tendencies yet.

I mounted the landing gear in the wings this week. I'm using Hobby King electric retract units with Robart struts. I made some aluminum adapters to fit the 1/2" struts into the 10mm sockets in the retracts.

Next I had to had some plywood spacers and maple wedges to the wing mounts to get the gear oriented properly in the wing.

I finished installing the ailerons and flaps today. I made a big goof. The covering on one aileron had some small wrinkles at the tip. I hit it with a heat gun and now I have lots of big wrinkles all over the aileron

I tried using a covering iron to get them out, but no luck. Is it possible to shrink this stuff?

Well I didn't lame that mistake but I made others. The covering is terrible and not exactly easy to work with. That's why I have lots of airbrushed "aging" on my plane ha ha

Unfortunately, that is the down side of using a heat gun. You may have overheated the covering beyond the optimum. Once that happens the covering starts to sag. No amount of extra heat will cure the problem.

I mounted the Hobby King electric tailwheel today. I "re-purposed" one of the wooden landing gear blocks that came with the kit to make a mount for the tailwheel unit.

To ensure that the engine cooled properly I made a baffle that directs all the incoming air through the cylinder fins. The baffle box is 1/16" ply with a silicon rubber seal. The aluminum shroud keeps the air flowing around the fins in the back.

That is an XYZ 53 from Hobby King. Several others have used them in this plane and liked it. The only concern I have is the spark plug caps rubbing the inside of the cowl. I ordered some kevlar fabric to reinforce that area.

Do yourself a favor and ditch the stock ignition module. The fail rate is dramatically high. Mine worked for three sparking cycles and then quit. It's the only weak link. Other than that, my 53 has been a great engine.
