Guys, I need a little input.

I'm doing a new scheme on mine and can't seem to be really sure of colors. I plan to do a simpler scheme "White 77" But some picks shown the top colors being light.dark gray,, other pics seem to shown dark earth/olive drab like colors,, I'm not entering any scale contests, but wonder which is right.

looks green and almost black or a real dark grey here
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...236955725).jpg

same plane,, it looks grey not green at all
http://www.spruemaster.com/blog/wp-c...m-kbely-54.jpg

thoughts?

Hey Tia,

I did a quick search on the Googles using "LA-7 Kbely" and then click on images to see several shots of that plane.

It it looks to be green and black. Some of the shots give a better look at the green which is not as dark as the Wiki pics.

Take a a look and see if that search sheads some light... Or white balance... On your scheme.

Joe

The "White 77" is in Prague- Kbely museum. It´s olive green with earth drab paint scheme.

Thanks, the close ups clear it up, I wasn't sure if it was a survivor or a restoration. I'll post some pics when I'm done

Yup, looks like an awesome project !!! More pics when you get a chance please.

BTW, I knew it would happen,,,,, my La-5 got called a FW-190 for the first time last Tuesday when I took it to the field to show off and set up in the pits.

I was expecting it at some point but it only took about 15 minutes before I heard "Nice 190...." lol....

All time I want to have some pairs of warbirds in my Hangar: Spitfire Mk.IX with FW-190 A6/7, the second pair Bf-109G with LaGG-3 or La-5. All in the same scale of course.
Something going wrong. I have completed Spitfire, repairing La-5 and unfinished Spitfire.
Too plans and no time!

Great paint, you have realistic colours! Exactly those I saw.
Are these graphics water stencils?

No, they are printed vinyl stick on,, very thin, they look like paint on the model, you can actually weather and distress them,,
There are some examples on my p-47 http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/rc-w...e-sorties.html

I made sticks for my Spitfire. At first time I decided for transparent vinyl a print them. But there was a problem with white colour. Most of home printers are not able to print white colour. I was forced to print them on the white vinyl. It wasn´t easy job to cut them without big edges.

Looks Great !! Love to see the new scheme coming to life.

Callie will also cut Stencils for you on low tack vinyl. She does great work !

You can see her stencils used to create the roundels on my Fiat.

About 3/4 down the page....

Joe

Callies vinyl decals come pre-cut and ready to apply. She is very fast. The German stick on vinyl decals on my La-5 are from her.

Tom, when did you get the idea to make this paint scheme which is in the Czech military museum? I must say, it´s not the best museum I´ve visited.
I´m really suprised, because it´s not famous camouflage.
But the white 77 has one big adavantage- non retractable tail wheel!

Well,
I picked it for it's simplicity, some of the schemes I see seem over done, ya know too many campaign awards and colors, the 77 looks to me like a early war time down and dirty fighter, not a show horse.

BTW, the Clear I tried isn't working out, I had never tried it before so I put some on the wing tip to start, Weird how it's clouding up and not giving a consistent color/sheen, I'll have to go with different Satin or Matte clear,, either the Systems Three or Krylon that I've used before.

Not sure why the attachment above is lost??

I used the Krylon Matte, it works well, just need to watch out for spilling gas directly on it,

Looks better now, will install the graphics and so some weathering next week,, off to a float fly this weekend.

Before with the crappy rustoleum enamel matte clear, don't use with the camo paint

Gotcha.....I'm going all krylon, it's been good for me. That clear must have given you a heart attack!!!
Good news is that the only time you will need to worry about gasoline is when you decide to pour it onto the plane

Nah, it was no biggie, that's why I tried it on the wing tip, an easy area to sand and repaint
