It came with a Zenoah G-38, I've flown planes this size with these before,, more than likely I'll put a Da-50 I have in it

Had to see what it looked like with the graphics,, I like it

Looks Great !!! Really like the scheme !!

I fired mine up yesterday and today. Yesterday it was back firing and spinning the prop off.... An email, some dial twisting and now it fires easily. But.... I found a set up issue with my throttle linkage. So back on the bench.

I have it 98% fixed. But found a slight difference from one carb to the other when wide open. I'll revisit that linkage and re-fire it Monday.

Thought i I had it all sorted when I put the glow carbs back on but I guess it still needs a little attention.

Closer and closer....

Joe

Prekin, I've been studying the museum pics you posted, are the rivets on this plane raised or flush?

Rivets on La-7 are mostly flush. I think there are not many planes with raised rivets.

That's molded into the fuse,,I have no plans to go crazy on this one,, it's just a flier,, not a contest plane

Raised rivets are only on the flaps.

My Float Fly got rained out this morning so I did a little subtle weathering and shot the Matte Clear over the graphics. I'm pretty happy with how it's coming together,, Won't be as distressed as the museum version pics show it's current state,, I'm trying to capture how it may have looked after the first couple sorties

It needs some cockpit detail and obviously I need to paint the spinner,, waiting on one of Jiri's 3 blade spinner to clear customs

I´m not eshop, so the only ways are PM or email. The second one is the best for me.

Hey Guys,

Quick update... Grrr..... The La-5 is ready and had planned to maiden this Saturday. But something I've done the Laser didn't like very well. So I've been working with Jon and he's been great !!

I have one carb that is not drawing and doesn't seem to meter correctly or at least the same as the other. I can barely get any air to flow through it when it's wide open. So rather than guess and wait and guess and wait for parts to fly back and forth I am sending it in to be brought back to spec. They have all the bits needed and it will be done right the first time.

So the La-5 will have a new 300v fresh form the factory floor or this one rebuilt. Whichever is faster. Either way, this engine will have a proper home in the La-5 or a new airframe down the road.

Stay tuned to this Bat Channel citizens..... The La-5 will be back after a short commercial break !!! In the good news department, We had great success with the L-4 towing !!! Yeay.... It was very cool including doing a tow at a local scale event. To make a show of it, I didn't gain very much altitude on the first lap of the pattern. In fact I slowly dropped the L-4 down to regular photo pass height to display the tow to the crowd then took it up to release height. It was very cool to see both the L-4 and Ka8 going down the middle of the runway about 15ft off the ground. I have to prep a Dr-1 for our Flying Circus event so lots to fly before the La-5 returns.

My goal is to have the La-5 in the air asap and it has priority once I have the corrected engine.

I'll be back in a couple of weeks.

Joe

hey Guys,

Engine is on it's way home for a once over.... It'll be there by Wednesday.

So in the mean time, I'm finishing up the LED guns as the rest of the plane is ready for when the engine is reinstalled.

Does anyone know how many shots would fire in between each blade of the prop?

I programed the guns to fire in bursts of 3 with a slight pause in between to simulate the prop blades going by and the syncro gear pausing the fire.

I'm still playing with that and can program endless options on the Delight Controller from Dimension Engineering.

I haven't found any live fire shots of an La-5/7 yet and have to have something to obsess over while I wait for the engine to come back to me.... lol If I fire the LEDs manually a 2 shot pulse with slightly longer "on" time looks cool.

But I'm wondering how the timing of the syncro gear would control firing.

Thanks for any help.

Joe

It´s hard to say Joe. I know that each cannon has 200 fires. Rate of fire was 700- 800 fires per minute. The rate was adjustable.

Lavochkin pilot. I assembled "Sailor" and paint him. Now he looks like VVS pilot from Leningrad or Sevastopol area.
