Hey Scale,
I may have a scoop..... Let me look tomorrow.
Congrats on the maiden !!!! Great to hear you had a good result. My engine is on it's way back to me all happy with new rings and a factory set up. Plus I ordered a BH Storch and another 300v as a glider tug. So my winter is planned... The D9 is primary on the bench and the Storch will be fill as I have free time.

Hi Scale,
I gots one..... I had drawn on it with pencil trying to figure out if I was going to use it for the chin scoop on the La-5. But no need. It would be better to shape and glass one if I decide to do the lower scoop.
Just PM me with your address and I'll send it out.
You going to the Skymasters Float fly ? Say hello to Bob and the gang for me. PMAC Joe.... I will be in Ann Arbor for the Alex Skolnick Trio that evening so I will be in your area. However, there is also a Aero Tow event in Ann Arbor that day also that I may be going to to check out.
BTW, if you're interested you could show off the La-7 at our Scale Event on the 18th !!

Flier here - http://geodza.com/PMAC_Web_2012_live...le%20Event.pdf
If my engine returns in time I may have the La-5 at the Scale Event.

Shoot me a PM and I'll drop the scoop in the mail.

Awesome Prekin,
Sicker than a dog here so not much getting done. However, I got the 300v running well and added a Crain Engineering glow driver since the combination of high oil content and high tank location makes it hard to get that classic Laser slow tick over with out the engine loading up. Anywhere above that slow tick over it runs great. I have some CoolPower Super T ordered and it should run much cleaner on that mix, but the CE glow driver means I can run regular CoolPower 10% with no issues other than it gets more messy...

While I've been sorting the last bits of the La5 I had a chance to fly my Me-163 after fitting a folding prop. It now has a take off trim setting I dialed into the flap switch, Since my 163 doesn't have flaps it makes the trim change very easy. I also added a spring to the Gear Dolly to help eject the gear mechanically rather than relying on a gravity drop. I flew the Fiat G-55 for the 1st time this year. Fun stuff,,,,
Hope to be back at it and fly the La5 next weekend. Dr's appointment tomorrow and then recover this week,

Hey Guys,
Recovering and not much going forward yet. However, I wanted to see the guns and my LED for the glow driver. So I put the cowl on and fired the cannons and lit the drivers. You'll note there are 2 LEDs inside the cowl currently. One is a low power LED and one is a brighter LED. Both red. I wanted to see if inside the cowl the low power LED was bright enough for me to see it on the flightline. Since it's not lit until below roughly 40% throttle and it is not super bright it shouldn't be seen normally in flight. Looks like it'll work. I can see it when looking from above the cowl and into the cowl, but there is no real reflective "glow" like you'd get with an overpowering LED.
Next I fired the cannons. They look even better in real life then in the video since the camera gets blown out by the bright LEDs. The yellow cowl reflects the flash very nicely and the spacing of the flashes is cool. I can reprogram the firing sequence to change the spaces or flashes if I want to later. But I think it's good. I'm using the trainer momentary button on my Tx to fire the cannons. Simple and easy....
Enjoy.

Thomas , emailed you but have not been able to get a responce.
I need some Sierra gear for my VQ Dauntless, I want to see if you can tell me the length /over all specs of the Sierra for the ESM Dauntless.
I know the ESM version is smaller so I want to make sure the gear legs will be adequate.
If you can PM me that would be great so that I am not interfering in this thread.

Hey Guys,
I'm happy to report the La5 did it's maiden tonight !!! Yeaaaa !! I'm still having coughing fits and am on big meds. But today was in the 70's and I wanted to have air under her wings before the time changes and we loose sunlight and/or temps go back down to the 40's.
I set everything as described in this thread and watched every video I could find to see control throws on the elevator. Many here have a slight down trim on their elevators so i set a little in mine. At the field the elevator just seemed too little and no where to go if it wasn't enough. So we reset it with more throw and instructions where given to my friend John who I enlisted to do the maiden since I didn't want to start coughing and Johns a great flyer.
On the first takeoff run it just seemed too little elevator and with it trimmed slightly down there was just not enough to keep the plane from rotating over on it's nose. We broke one of the wheel covers on that run as it flipped over on it's back.... Grrrrr..... rechecked everything and reset elevator to level plus add some more throw.....
Second try.... Much better elevator control..... Rolled out nicely, and up she goes..... Keep away from trees, level off into the pattern and trim slightly. Since the one gear leg had the wheel cover blocks loose John left the gear down to avoid jamming the legs in the closed position. A few laps and the 300v dropped a cylinder. Don't fight it..... Just put it on the ground and lets tune and reset stuff.... So John dropped the flaps. I had pre-warned him to not let it go nose high when landing with those big flaps deployed.
He kept a little power on until he was past the trees at the end of our runway and then reduced power.... I'm sure my warning went through his head because suddenly he went nose down steeply and then flared nicely and let it settle in. The La5 floated a bit and lightly bounced/settled on the mains and rolled out to a nice stop!!! Hurray !!!
We have some things to tune and reset. The 300v is very cool and will have great power. I'm running a glow driver and it drained my battery (1100mah Life) so the 300v didn't re-light and/or allowed it to drop the cylinder. I'm running Coolpower 10% which has way too much oil for the Laser plus my tanks are too high above the carb center line. Soooo... the Glow driver helps the 300v clear out. I had reset the point at which it turns off between the last time I ran it and this nights flight. I think I'll turn it back up to help keep the transition clear. If I get some Coolpower Super T or mix my own fuel the 300v should run much cleaner.
I balanced dry at 152.5mm with a nose down attitude. I checked at 150mm and the plane sat level. So with full tanks I'm sure the CG has shifted forward. John noted if felt a little nose heavy when landing. However, this flight didn't take too much fuel from the 2 16oz tanks. I'm going to leave the CG where it is for now. With 32oz's of fuel I'm betting it'll feel better after I've burned off more fuel on a normal flight. I can always remove nose weight later.
Now that it's flown I need to add charging ports to the cockpit to top off the Retract and Glow Driver batteries. I used some charge ports from Electrodynamics that are wired for Life batteries but use standard servo lead charge ports. Just plug in the special charge cable with servo ends that are wired for life batteries just like a Nimh but with Life wiring.
So the La5 has had it's maiden and we are on our way !!! There is video that I'll get a copy of and post but that probably wont happen till next week. It was a simple but very informative flight. A maiden.....
I'll keep taking my meds and hopefully I can get time on the La5 yet this year but the good days are getting fewer and fewer....
Ta dahhhh...... lol

Good to hear it was successful,,
I too use life/a123 packs and the earst charge sockets,,, you can change the 2s jst charge connectors to regular 3 wire jr/universal style servo leads, that will plug into a balance board. I've done that on my scale models that use a123 packs,
This is a pic of the system while it was out of my p-47

Jiri,,
Thanks, but I found it after all.
Some post flight thoughts,,, So I flew it with the Zenoah G38 that came with it, it ran good, just not very fast,, I'm going to try a few props, but I'm already leaning towards installing a 50cc over the winter,, need for speed thing

sorry about he sideways pics,, RCU's picture system sucks
Not sure when I'll get the chance to run it, been a pretty windy and wet fall so far,not doing much flying this month ;(
