The guesses are very good but not exactly correct. To help narrow this down, it was not used on the starship Enterprise.

1. This item was used on more than one aircraft, one of those aircraft was a B-34.
2. This item was also used on the B-37.

How about an inline oil filter with magnets to trap metal fragments?

No, not a filter, the shape of it is what makes it work.

1. This item was used on more than one aircraft, one of those aircraft was a B-34.
2. This item was also used on the B-37.
3. It is also used on the PV-1.
4. It is not an engine component.

I could be wrong, but I dont believe MAD gear was installed in the turret. It does look similar to the recoil dampner on an M-61A1 Vulcan cannon, but thats not it either.

1. This item was used on more than one aircraft, one of those aircraft was a B-34.
2. This item was also used on the B-37.
3. It is also used on the PV-1.
4. It is not an engine component.
5. This is part of the armament from the afore mentioned aircraft.
6. This item is part of a gun turret.
7. This item does its job based on the shapes around the circumference.

Thats it, This one is from the top turret, it rotates as the turret does and the raised areas on the sides open an electrical switch. You can see on one end the portion that interrupts for the two vertical stabs and the horizontal stab. Good Job, looks like you're up.

Wendell F Moore from Marion Indiana?
In the early 1960s, Bell Aerosystems built a rocket pack which it called the "Bell Rocket Belt" or "man-rocket" for the US Army, using hydrogen peroxide as fuel. This concept was revived in the 1990s and today these packs can provide powerful, manageable thrust. This rocket belt's propulsion works with superheated water vapor. A gas cylinder contains nitrogen gas, and two cylinders containing highly concentrated hydrogen peroxide. The nitrogen presses the hydrogen peroxide onto a catalyst, which decomposes the hydrogen peroxide into a mixture of superheated steam and oxygen with a temperature of about 740 °C. This was led by two insulated curved tubes to two nozzles where it blasted out, supplying the recoil. The pilot can vector the thrust by altering the direction of the nozzles through hand-operated controls. To protect from resulting burns the pilot had to wear insulating clothes.

I can't figure out any way in which Bell's research on a flying belt is connected to anything in use within the RC community. However, later attempts to build a more practical flying belt (for example, the work of John K. Hulbert) advanced the technology of ducted fans, which are in use on some RC aircraft. If that isn't to what you refer, I'm lost. Thanks; Ernie P.

Sorry about that I posted the flying belt stuff because I thought it was interesting.(The jet pack has nothing to do with the answer. It was developed by a completely different designer.)

Back to the actual question

How did one of bell aircrafts most famous engineers contribute to rc(not strictly speaking a war bird question)and who was he?

Until very recently some rc guys wouldnt be able to fly without this mans contributions to the aircraft industry.

For many years this mans first warbird was one of the most recognized aircraft everyone new what it was for and many were very gratefull that it existed.(supposedly some people could hear them from very far away.)

Bonus clue. Despite having been developed 60 years ago you can still see this mans invention on a brand new rc aircraft(unless you want to spend big bucks to fly without it.)
