RE: Knowledge Quiz for Warbird wiz
No correct answers thus far. Although N1EDM's answer was incorrect, he has the right idea. Remember; this is an aircraft system. It was used on most of the USAAF aircraft, but the inadequacies of the system in use affected bombers more. Thanks; Ernie P.
Background: Just prior to the entry into WWII by the United States, the USAAF realized they had a big problem. This question examines that problem; and how it was solved.
Question: What inadequate USAAF aircraft component or system do I describe?
Clues:
(1) In mid 1941, the USAAF realized the aircraft system they had in place would not be sufficient for anticipated operations.
(2) Unless a new system was designed, and very quickly, USAAF aircraft, particularly bombers, would be handicapped. They simply would be unable to fulfill their intended mission.
(3) Fortunately, the British supplied examples of a captured German system; which was copied.

RE: Knowledge Quiz for Warbird wiz
OK, can I take two stabs at it in one message???
Does it have something to do with the bombs? Either the carrier/release mechanism or the arming device?
If I can't make two guesses (I just joined - not sure of the rules) I'll pick one of them...

No correct answers thus far. No one really close, either. This was a BASIC air craft system. Last clue for the evening. Thanks; Ernie P.

No correct (or really close) answers thus far. Maybe this will help. BTW; my last post had two new clues. Thanks; Ernie P.

(5) By September, a new USAAF system was devised. In fact, it had a significant improvement over the German system.

Gentlemen;
Additional clues. As always, you are expected to provide additional documentation or information supporting your guesses. I'll be out of pocket until this evening, so enjoy. Thanks; Ernie P.
