OK, a different aircraft indeed! I'll come up with something by tomorrow.

Huh?!?!
Just for laughs, and because recce without radio or camera was mentioned, I went looking for the oldest forms of aerial reconnaissance...

Looking for an aircraft.

1. The military version of a civilian aircraft. Unlike most civil-to-military conversions, the military version was larger than the civilian version.

I actually posed an earlier quiz question for that balloon, flown by the French around 1795-96. I can't find it now.

Today's clue:

Looking for an aircraft.

1. The military version of a civilian aircraft. Unlike most civil-to-military conversions, the military version was larger than the civilian version.

2. And a later variant of the military aircraft was even larger.

The DC-3 is one of my favorite planes, but not what I'm thinking about today. Here's another clue:

Looking for an aircraft.

1. The military version of a civilian aircraft. Unlike most civil-to-military conversions, the military version was larger than the civilian version.

2. And a later variant of the military aircraft was even larger.

3. Used by the militaries of several countries, and also by some police forces.

The FBI use a Lockheed AC-130a Spectre? Wow!

I want to see that "film at 11". The audio track will go something like this: "Federal agent! BLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBL AMBLAM...!!!!!

No correct answers yet. I'll have another clue tomorrow morning. For now, let me clarify clues 1 and 2. By "larger" I mean that the airframe (fuselage and/or wing) was larger. Just adding things (like a radome, for instance) to a plane doesn't count.

Yes! The Britten-Norman Defender, an enlarged version of the Britten-Norman Islander, a plane (the Islander) known, among other things, for having a scheduled two-minute flight (in the Orkneys). The Defender was flown by the FBI at the siege of Waco in 1993. The Defender 4000 was even larger than the original Defender, which was larger than the Islander..

Your turn, Zippome.

That was a good quiz Top Gunn!

Ok, let's try this again.

1. Although it is technically a warbird, it was never designed for combat operations.
2. It was designed for a specific purpose in the propaganda war.

That's it for a start...

Thanks!

Not the U-2

How about an evening clue...

1. Although it is technically a warbird, it was never designed for combat operations.
2. It was designed for a specific purpose in the propaganda war.
3. 2 were constructed.
4. Only 1 survived the conflict.

That's it for a start...

Thanks!
