1) Looking for an aircraft

2) Twin engines

3) Monoplane

4) Utilized by the Military of 8 countries

5) Designed and first flown almost 80 years ago...there are still several of them flying these days

6) 9 different designations / variants

7) Crew of 1

8) This type has had at least three ( certified for) different configurations of powerplants
Meaning the layout or configuration of the cylinders.

9) Jim's guess of the Beech 18 got the Country of Origin

10) A little over 300 built, approx. 10% of that total were license built in another (European) country
(* have to modify this statement...to be more accurate, 13% would be a closer figure)

11) Utilized by the Navy...Army Air Corps...the Air Force...Coast Guard and CAP

12) Some versions were equipped with seating for 3, or 4 or sometimes 5 passengers

13) One of these aircraft had a rather prominant role in a popular TV show

14) Look Boss...the plane..the plane!

15) The "Super" version had retractable tip floats as an option

Amphibious?
Bigger brothers Goose, Mallard, and Albatross ?

If it wasn't the Goose, it can't be the Mallard. The Mallard was bigger than the Goose, seating up to 15. I actually know which aircraft this is but I'M NOT GOING TO TELL YA

I can't this time, I'll be in the hospital for more chemo this and next week.
I did fly an HU-16 Albatross, once. That was enough.
Goose and Widgeon look almost the same, the top of the fuselage forward of the cockpit curves down on the Widgeon, it's straight on the Goose.

@propstop...yes! The engine hadn't been run in a while so that took a bit of tinkering to get going. It still isn't 100% but it was making decent power and idled ok. It took at half throttle and I did about 5 laps of the field. Couple clicks if down elevator and a touch of aileron...flew great!

ok here we go...first couple clues
1. Designed in the mid 30's
2. The Boeing 247 and Douglas DC-2 were inspiration for this design

here are a couple more to help this along...

1. Designed in the mid 30's
2. The Boeing 247 and Douglas DC-2 were inspiration for this design
3. The last of the breed was retired in the early 70's
4. shared engines with other well known airplanes
5. there is only 1 that is potentially airworthy today
