Guys I have the p47 and have been flying it for 2 years now. A great flying plane but mine is very sensitive on the elevator. I have dual rates set at 1/4" up and down with a little expo in it and that has helped. Also have shifted the cg back a bit from manual but it is still sensitive. Anyone else having this issue? Any suggestions?

I agree, moving the tail back will increase sensitivity. Also, if I remember right, the CG from the plans is wrong. I did my own calculations based on MAC (Mean aerodynamic Chord) and have no sensitivity at all. The plane is heavy though, so heavy elevator input is needed automatically in turns or it loses altitude. Let us know how it turns out. Where IS your CG? If you let us know, I'll look at mine to compare.

G'day all,
have been flying mine for several years, CofG is about 110mm back from the centre join of the wing, it is good, very nice to fly, I have a DLE 30 in mine, all batteries up the front, no lead, flies like a charm,

P47 Thunderbolt CG--FINALLY
I finally got a chance to measure the CG location of my ESM p47. The engine is a Zenoah G38. Flies very powerfully. I didn't trust anything written on the box, or in the plans. So I recreated the wing planform in a CAD system based on actual measured points on the wing. I then figured out the 25% chord location for each station, representing the center of lift. I added them all up, and divided by the number of stations, giving me a MAC (mean aerodynamic chord) of 4.2" (106.68mm) as measured at the fuselage side. Here is the CAD file:

I know this is an old thread but I have just acquired a ESM P47, the silver one. I will be installing a DLE 30 in it and the ESM V4 retracts. Thanks for all he info here, hope to have photos to post one of these days!

Mine is no longer in existence. No, it didn't crash as one might expect. It was destroyed in a fire. Sure loved it, it flew well. I had a Zenoah G38 that I converted to electronic ignition (from magneto). It was the first plane I had built in years in which I put a lot of scale detail. It flew heavy, but predictably. And with that big thick wing, it still landed gently. I'd love to have another one, but Ever Soaring Models has raised it's prices to where it doesn't really stand out as a great deal anymore. Plus, the supplier, Troy Built Models, went out of business.

I still have one New in the box, will be planning to start on it in the fall of this year to have it ready by next years fly-ins, mine is getting a OS 33 for the power plant, retract I’m still on the fence about, any suggestions there?

It seems like the DLE 30 will fit nicely in the cowl, looking forward to the build, just finishing a Seagull FW-190 and have a DH.98 also ready to be test flown. I believe ESM is history so now we only have what stock is left, a bit sad. I still have a BF-110C and Stuka in boxes waiting their turn on the workbench.

I think the OS 33 will be great in the P47! I am planning on using the ESM V4 electric retracts, they are available locally, will report on their quality as soon as I have them.

Yes. I will post photos and hopefully a video as soon as it is done. My workshop is rather full at the moment. Just finished a Seagull 80" DH.98 Mosquito and working on a 80" FW-190 at the moment that is almost done. Then I have to pick one out of 5 kits for the next project, the P47 is at the top of the list at the moment!

I bought me one recently from a pilot who had a hard landing ripping one LG out.
I'm installing a NGH38 in it and it has air retracts, I think they are original from ESM!
I did some weight and I presume my flying weight will be around 7500 gram.....

First test flight

I fly my P47 with a NGH38 , Mezjlik 3 blade 18X10 max rpm 6000 static trust around 6 Kg.
Flying weight is around 7500 gram.
It flew perfect, take off was easy and landing the same,
CG is as in manual 136mm from LE, flew upside down and just a liitle down elevator.
Tested stall, and it just loosing altitude, this was also the same landing, I could make it realy slow and still it was stable till touch down.
Great flyier.
Ps waiting for my exhaust adapter so it fits in cowl.
