RE: Meister Land SE Rogerio's Brazilian P47 Bubble
Hi folks,
Good to see model is moving along. And thank you for the comments! Keep them coming.
Now some history facts that I'm sure you know nothing about it
1-The bird: PJ, for some weird reason the wing commander prohibited individual nose arts on the squadron's acft. Pehaps same reason british didn't have too. People start doing it, one named the plane ' Arlette" and this model had the name "Trozoba"that had to be wipped out.
But allowed a squadron ID painting, that was created by late brigadier Fortunato. He elected the oistrich as a simbol because of the **** food (ration k) they had to eat attached to 350 USAAD WS, comparing to the good food we brazilians have at home! It wear a FAB cap, holds a shield with the southern cross (something you guys can't see n the sky up north) and a smoking gun. Flak explosion cloud was added to it as soon as the boys met their "Fritz"oponents.
2-Bombs: yeas Wayne, you are right. That many bombs! The bird, A-4 that was flown by then LT Torres, flew 100 missions piloted by him. 100 "mopping floor" bombing missions. Not like the average american pilot that flew 25 or 30 missions (I can't recall, somebody help me with yhis number) and was sent home, the brazilian 1st Fighter Squadron comprised of volunteers. Although the USAAF detaché had asked them to return home, lack or delays in replacement pilots to arrive in Italy prompted the group to volunteer to stay. Due to MIA numbers, the original 4 wing's squadron was reduced to only 3 over the lenght of stay in Italy. As a matter of fact, record was so outstanding that the Squadron received the US Presidential Unit Citation.

This is an excerpt of what is written on yours National Museum of the US Air Force:
Brazil entered the war on Aug. 22, 1942, after German submarines sank several of its merchant ships in the Atlantic Ocean. Força Aérea Brasileira (FAB) aircrews had already begun training with U.S. personnel and conducting antisubmarine flights off the coast of Brazil. By the end of 1944, this important mission was the sole responsibility of FAB aircrews flying U.S.-supplied aircraft.
From the fall of 1944 to the end of the war, an all-volunteer group of 48 Brazilian fighter pilots flew as a squadron attached to the U.S. Army Air Forces' 350th Fighter Group, 12th Air Force, in Italy. Designated the 1º Grupo de Aviação de Caça (1º GAC), these P-47 Thunderbolt pilots amassed an impressive combat record that included the destruction of over 1,300 motor vehicles, 250 railway cars, and 25 bridges.
Senta a Pύa Emblem
Senta a Pύa! loosely translated means "fight with a spur," which is a phrase derived from rooster fighting. This expression became the war cry of the 1º GAC and it was incorporated into their unit emblem. This emblem was worn as a patch on their flight suits and also painted on their P-47s.

Wayne
Would you really paint that ugly chicken in your P-47? I'd rather paint those 2 hot brazilian chics in mine, but, being true to scale and history...it's (was) forbidden...and even more...I can get killed for that !
So we will have to live with the ostrich!
