jaav......
please post some pics of your P-47 here , please.....i'm interested in building it too.
Yes the retracts have the play you mentioned 10-15mm.....but i don't think this will be a very big problem.
The only prob. i see is if the landing gear mounting pattern can hold some not so good landings.
Although i have reinforced the area under the retract mounting position with some epoxy/fiberglass cloth.....we will see....
Pics of your P-47.....engine ?

MAIDEN FLIGHT WITH LOT OF SUCCESSSSS
OK guys.........i really cann't believe how nice she flies....so smooth,so elegant.....
The Saito 120S really pulls the airframe scale like WITH the APC 16x6.....
On the downwind with this prop is scale-like fast,
so if someone needs more speed (...i will definately try it ) he should try a 15x8 / 15x7 / 14x10
NOW some tips and settings ...
The elevator throw reccomended is WAY TOO MUCH...
I had to use some negative expo on the elev.
I think BH reccomends 15mm up/down travel,
i think the best is arround 10mm or less.
I also used negative expo on the ailerons,
again
the suggested travel is much!
OH the flaps REALLY WORK....
The provide so nice lift that landings are really smooth....
And the U/C did do the job nice....they do have some play but you can deffinately start with the stock units and see how it goes.
From my point of view i think they work great and i will keep them until they give me a problem.
So far so good....
Here are the pictures....

I currently don't have flying pictures but i will get some as soon as i fly her again!
All i have to say is that on low passes it's awsome!

RE: Blackhorse P-36A Hawk....join here!
I like this plane. I like the Curtiss P-36 Hawk. I bought the BH arf with the plan of kitbashing it. Scale is very important to me. I tore off all the covering. I removed the canopy. I removed all the gear mounts, and the flap mounts. The retracts are at the local land fill as are the gear doors. I bought a Top Flite P-40 canopy for part, and will use part of the original for the rear scallops. I have lots of planes to fly, I do not need to get mine in the air quickly. Yes I am scale crazy. I may try to get a wing from the new Top Flite P-40 ARF. That would be less work. Thank you for posting all your great pictures. I am glad it flies good. Maybe in a few years I'll post some pics of mine!

Why a wing from a P-40 ?
Will it be a drop-in fit ?

I'm also a fan of the P-36 but I don't like the non-scale treatment of the landing gear in this ARF. Instead I bashed the BH 40C into a P-36. There is a thread on this. About a yr and half ago. Has BH P-36 cowling, Century Jet landing gear and RCGF 20cc gas engine. I now have 107 flights on the airplane. Here are some pictures. Its painted in Finish Airforce colors and markings

Hey RBean, how is the paint on film holding up?,Warbird paint and what primer? how well can the wrinkles from the sun be ironed out with the paint ? I have the BH p-36 and I want to do the german colors like you did . I have a set of rotating lados I'm going to use. Just a little work on the the wing, and a p-40 cockpit kit for it .plus a set of top flite landing gear pods ,Have it all just need to find some time to do it.
please let me know how the paint is holding up ,and primer used.
hopefully soon I can post a few pictures.
Joe

I don't know how the BH retracts hold up because I never used them. I'm using century jet retracts. I fly off a grass runway and my experience has been that none of the rotating mechanical retracts hold up very well. With regard to the paint, I sanded the covering and used automobile gray lacquer primer and then Warbird Color paint. I has been holding up fairly well. If I leave the plane in the sun too long it gets some wrinkles but they go away once it cools down.

.....Some updates !!!
My P-36A Hawk
is READY !
No other jobs waiting to be done.........
Cowl is mounted permanently !
You can see that i used a portion of fuel line to absorb any vibration on the HS needle extension !
You can also see i used small small parts of tubing on the screws i used to hold the canopy down !
Enjoy....
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS WARBIRD !!!
