From looking at the pictures, the control surfaces do not use scale hinging?? Means that the control surfaces leading edges are angled cut for deflection instead of a half circle that rolled inside a faring, you can literally see right through the hinges. Reminds me of the big P47 ARF. The only fix to that is an ARC. IMHO the ESM was done better in that department.

The leading edge of the control surfaces do indeed, look beveled. If u want to hollow out the trailing edge of the flying surfaces, I reckon you could.

Ok guys, once again Top Flite has come through. Did a quick once over to check for any shipping damage, none very well packaged. From what I saw it looks to be very cool. LDM you have got to get one of these. Now I can't wait to see the giant scale P-40, guess this will have to hold me over until the big one comes. In my opinion it out does the VQ P-40 in the looks department. I'm HAPPY

Guys this thread was started about the large scale new P-40 which is the reason us people that are interested in the larger one check back on here ...lets not hi-jack this subject for the smaller P-40.
If you want to talk about "it" start a different one.

fyi,
just checked tower and it says 'IN STOCK':

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LNZHK0&P=G

the web page is incorrect by listing the P-47 for the main gear.
I'm guessing these is the gear needed:

I'm guessing that tower mislabeled 'in stock' as now it says 'late August'.

On the Giant scale , I was looking at the description of the wings and it menthions fiberglass , do you think they are referring to the gear pods or some part of the actual wing construction ?

LDM Looking at the manufacturers web site it looks like the gear pods and belly pan are the only fiberglass on the wings. Wing looks to be balsa, plywood, and an aluminum reinforcement spar for the landing gear. I have everything I need to put this plane in the air except the airframe itself. []

THis size plane is totally new to me , so I will need some schooling on the servos , batterys and even the servos wires , assuming its all upgraded to heavy duty .
I wondering if this will be picked up in the giant forum

I bought six HS 645MG servos, should have plenty of torque. I have four other HS 475 karbonite gear also, rated & 61 .oz at 4.8 volts hoping these will be alright, if not I will have to get more 645's. Like you this will be all new to me so I need some education also, especially with the DLE 55. [&:]

I would suggest not to use servo's with karbonite gears in a plane with a gas engine. I have heard that the vibration will kill those gears. Go with metal gear servo's.

Be leary of any Kabonite geared servos.. Alot of people lost airplanes due to them..there is a long thread somewhere on RCU...Here is the warning directly off the Hitec site:

Applications: Heli's and Aircraft up to 72” or up to 12lbs when using just one servo per control surface.

Note: Be aware that high vibration gas (not glow) engines combined with large contol surfaces and large thows (3D models) can put undue strain on the gears. Metal geared servos are recommended for these applications even if under 12lbs.

Warning: Do not use thread lockers on Karbonite geared servo as it will cause the output shaft to fail.

Thanks for the info, that's what is so great about these forums. I had heard about not using nylon gear servos with gas, looks like karbonite is no good also. I'll have to get a few more HS 645's. Thanks

Ya'll may call me crazy. but i use standard servos ($9.95 each) on all my planes. Even when i did large gas planes. Like my 102" Fw 190. I use standard on all surfaces except for the elevators and rudder. One per surface. On the elevators and rudder i use the Futaba 3010 which is about a 90oz servo on 6v. I have yet to loose a plane due to a servo or feel like i have a lack of control..These are all nylon gear. I also have this same setup in my 146" Halifax...

The plane in stock is the GS P-47 RTC, not the P-40.
