Anybody know were to get small led lights i can mount on my dash? Im going to hide my switches under the cowl and want to be able to solder a couple lights inline so i remember to shut switches off.I looked at radio shak and i dont think theres will work with a 6volt system. Thanks.

Guys Im a little worried, I don't see many build issues with this bird except the ones I mentioned earlyer,

But I was putting in my Rudder servo yesterday and the back have of the servo tray came unglued!!!

I put some triangle stock under to keep it strong but I would of hated to lose the tray that holds the rudder and elevator servos.

Did you guys use the supplied Pull Pull Line?

This was a great ARF with few issues. That being said, you have provided a great teaching moment. Any ARF (or for that matter any plane that you did not build yourself) should be carefully gone through from one end to the other and tested for the integrity of glue joints etc. I also use judicious reinforcement on areas that i know will have high stress such as firewalls, wing mounting plates and - yes - servo trays. Good luck with your build.

thanks it dose. If you find time to post the paint codes on the cans. That way people can order them that would be great

I was able to fit both my main power and ignition switch and my fuel fill and air fill all under the little fiberglass cap that gose on the top connected to the cowl

More pics

i put a cheap fuel hose spring around the airfill. Then put the washer under the 2 switches and glued it. It now pops in and out. Put a magnet on the back and some soft velcrow on the flange up front to keep it tight

Thanks for the info

Hey guys how are you gettng the cowl on this bird.?

I got the JTec muffler that tower recommended. With DLE55. I cut a hole for just the 2 pipes to stick out but ther so long I can't get the cowl on. I even tried leavening one bolt on and I still can't get it on.

It seems the only way is to leave the muffler off in the cowl then put the muffler on afterwards which will be a pain

Cut the Exhaust Pipes, I cut mine so just 1/4" sticks out past the Cowl Exhaust Pipe Holes I made, several guys have done the same, you do this and the cowl slips on and off without any problems

Plus 1. Shorten the pipes and you will have no problems.

I had to cut mine off to. I also cut oblong holes in the cowl. This makes it go on and off easier.

Well after about 15 flights my J-tec muffler is loose again. I have another muffler that I bought at a swap meet (SL2123). This muffler is much beefier and the pipes are short but I will try it. The muffler chamber touches the cowl. I don't know if the heat will be a problem. Does anyone have any experience with?

I have a DLE55 Mounted on this Bird with the P-40 Jtec Wrap around Pitts exhaust with the Exhaust Tubes Shortened, I read about the exhaust bolts vibrating loose, I went ahead and used Wire Lockable Bolts to eliminate this as a problem, I have also read that vibration will bust this style of exhaust, not sure about Jtec, is there any need to make a support strap for the Exhaust? I like to fix any potential problems before they actually happen, and before I mount the cowl.

I have cracks in the muffler header, that is why I'm trying a different muffler. I installed the muffler without wires to begin with and when it came loose I installed the wire. I had the same problem on my giant scale TFP47. I finally had to use the stock muffler which has worked fine. The cowl is to narrow on the P40 to use the stock muffler unless you butcher it. I'm not trying to dump on J-tec,but I have not had a good experience.

Sorry to hear that, do you think a support strap would have helped, or was the cracks caused when the exhaust bolts vibrated loose, before you had a chance to use Wire Lockable Bolts? My plan using 1/2 to 3/4 inch wide aluminum strap which will be secured to round Muffler End plate/Disc, and the other end secured under the Engine/Standoff Mounting bolt.

I did that on my last muffler and when I talked to J-tec he said that would void the warranty, but I have seen others do that with success.I did try the strap but the cracks were already showing. I believe what you are doing is the best approach I tried to do piece meal and it didn't work. Others on this thread have used the same muffler/engine combo and don't seem to have this issue. Good luck!

I plan to fly this PM will advise

Well,I flew for about 30 min total flight time and no muffler issues with the Slimline muffler. The only concern is heat where one edge of the muffler touches the cowl. It feels hot to the touch and I think over time it will effect the cowl. May have to cut a slight hole. OH how I hate to cut this one!!!!!
