Default Need some Gear for your P-40?

I have a set (mains and tail) of Robart air operated gear for the TF Giant P-40, including the Air Can and Valve. Plane tip stalled on a dead stick and cartwheeled. Gear was unscathed. I also have a new in the box cowl and a new set of Nacelles. PM me with an offer, if you are interested.

Has anyone made the stabs removable on the P40 Giant Scale ARF instead of gluing them?

Hello, I maidened my P 40 about a month ago and one of the electric gear folded on a rut in the runway (grass). The actuator stripped out and the one gear would not function. Sent to Robart and was fixed under warranty. Gear is back in and plane is RTF. Question is, anyone having difficulty with the electric Robarts being a little delicate? Anyone got any feedback on thier electric rotating Robarts? Thanks

I like the air gear myself, but it is worth noting that Robart fixed damaged gear under warranty. Not bad!

If anybody is interested my P-40 gear are for sale in the classifieds. They work perfectly and have about 50 flights on them. My firewall decided to come apart and the airframe is no longer flyable. The gear are ready to ship to a new buyer. $400 shipped.

For those that have owned/ flown both, how does the P-40 compare to the 1/5 top flite P -51 arf? I'm trying to decide which one to assemble. Thanks

I've not owned the Mustang, but have flown a few. Both are good fliers but the gear mount in the Mustang is weak. The P-40 doesn't have that weakness as the central spar is made of aluminum and the gear is attached to that spar.

Ditto, They both are great and fly well, take offs and landings with the Mustang are more challenging. If you go with the TF P51 arf read all the threads. There are wing and retract mods to fix the problems. They are not difficult, and WILL save you many head aches. After the wing mods are done, the wing will be "almost" indestructible unless you you drop it on to concrete from 100 ft. When this happened the only thing left was the spar box ( intact) from tip to tip and the gear mounts also reinforced.

Thanks for the info guys. I have read most of the P-51 thread, so I am aware of the wing issues. I am surprised the p-51 is more challenging to take off and land, I figured the narrow gear track of the P-40 would cause difficulty.

I expected the P-40 to be squirrely on takeoff, but a couple of quick corrections at the start has been all I needed. The exception has been when I used a 12" pitch prop. With that, I have to hold rudder for about 300 feet.

Landing the P40 requires a little faster landing speed.Gives more rudder control to prevent ground loops.

The 79" EPO P40 have very scale P40 exaust that many at my field have used for other projects.
If you need the measurements I can take them for you .
I would post a picture but the methods used to do so on this site are just too slow for my taiste.

What about removing them and replace with some flattened brass tubing?

Hi,
You may want to give Fiberglass Specialties a call or e-mail . [email protected]
Though I didn't see it listed they make a TON of beautifully made cowls, exhausts, gear blisters, wheel pants, etc.
They're who I found out from that the .60-1.20 Top Flite ARF Mustang,Corsair,P-40 are EXACTLY the same dimensions & outlines as the same Gold Edition kits are, except the cowls on P-51 and P-40 kits are plastic bottoms w/wood tops vs 1 piece on the ARF's. A buddy had his beautiful P-40 kit bust up thoroughly his wing. The ARF P-40 wing bolted right up !
Regardless no wonder the ARF P-40 flies so much better, though i love kits too it's right at 2 lbs (!!!) lighter .
Sorry for drifting off, but I'll bet Fiberglass Specialties can help you.
Doug
