RE: P-40 Colour experts...
I've seen this color referred to as "Desert Pink", "Desert Tan", and "Desert Sand". From the book "Air Force Colors" volume 2 the actual color is ANA 616 "Sand" and is supposedly very similar to FS30279. I would bet that Model Master or one of the other plastic model paint companies has FS30279 in their inventory which would provide you with a sample to match.

I remember seeing a pink P40 flying in airshows in the 80's . The lady's name was Sue Parish. Google a Pink P40 and see the video sf this plane

just got a order from Chuck a couple weeks back, I am going with the green and dark brown look on my TF P-40 rehab project, its sitting in idle right now untill I get interested in it again.
I just got through doing a run in test of a OS120surpass engine I got, looks to be a runner,I will see how fast I get to it now that I have a decent running engine for it

I was wondering (when I clicked the "OK" button ) if it would just show up as *****
I also found out that when you try to google or yahoo that particular color...you don't get WWII Desert colors, or anything like that![X(]
Back in the early 70's, as a pre-teen, I told my friend Kenny about that color...didn't know his mom heard me...she got kinda bugged w/ me...
He was building a 1/72 (IIRC it was a Revell ) scale B-24 and we had read about the Strawberry B 1 t c h (his mom thought I was a bad influence... )

hmmm. $18-$25 shipping? crazy baby. My local paint mix place $12 acrylic spay bomb.
DarkEarth/Middlestone was RAAF colors. DarkEarth/Desert Yellow was USAAF colours. Desert Sand was the
Primary colour of all P-40's going to the 57th FG in North Africa. DarkEarth/Desert Yellow was painted on the
P-40 at the depot in Nigeria.
seems those P-40s laid a beating on some Germans one Sunday (see pics).
suckswhen you getkilled by a titty pink P-40.

Greg,
I thought you were talking about the RAF P-40's... Now that I've seen the picture, yes it is sand, FS#30279... Yeah, sorry about the postage...it's out of my control...it depends on "which end" of Canada you are on, relative to Oregon

RE: P-40 Colour experts...
no worries. as far as where I live, go north to vancouver, turn right and go about
1000 miles. (fargo ND is 4 hours south from me). I'll be ordering the sand from
you tomorrow when the wife has gone to work
edit:
that would be the 616 SAND.

a little tip when ordering warbirdcolors paints that I use is to build your order up the shipping doesn't really change much as you add material, so I set up my order to work to my advantage and keep the overall price down,
chucks a good guy and the paint is easy to work with I have a few projects done now with it, love the water clean up and low odor

RE: P-40 Colour experts...
no doubt chuck is a GREAT guy. still think the shipping is a tad crazy though. but no worries.
I always like the look of the desert sand P-40's, esspecially the ones in the 57th FG and just
want the paint to be an exact match. I know that they never used primer on the outside sufaces,
so I'll have to lay down a base coat of aluminum first.
anyways, I cleaned up this one life magazine pic and was wondering, in the recesses behind
the rear glass, is it painted grey, or green zinc chromate? another thing I noticed, under the ehxaust
dumps, theres a ' dot dot dot dash ' morse code for 'V' I believe. any signifigence to that?
