hello Midas, thanks for that info, just a bit more, is the slop in the top of the strut where the pin goes through that rotates the strut, a previous forum thread said about that point but it wasnt all that clear as to how it was fixed.
thanks, Oldtimer

I read that abit using the brass tubing... I tried that fix.. it helped slightly.. most of the play is coming from that round brass pivoting socket... didn't seem like there was anything I could do to fix that... ideas?

Anyone think the Robart ESM retracts are worth it? Or would using 150s with mounting plates do the trick? I'm on the fence about which route to go...

A successful maiden was had today.

Bit of up trim, that's all. No dramas, easy to fly, easy to land.
No trim changes with flap, all good.

Engine( FG84 radial was a bit rich oter than that perfect.

Go fly.

cheers

Matt

After a great flight that mesmerized the guys at the field this happens!!!!! Nothing ruins a great flight like a terrible landing. She touch down smooth as butter... As soon as I give her a lil bit of rudder to straight her out to keep he out of the dirt the freaked ESM gear gives on me. The right wheel slop totally gave and towed the wheel to far in cartwheeling the plane. I killed my carbon prop, cracked the fuse and destroyed the rudder. Not to mention the canopy was a lil crushed.... I've got her repair for the most part minus the ruder. I need to recover and paint it. But this plane will never fly again until it has new gear on her... I rarely fly her as it is but I've had it with those gear on her... I rarely fly her as it is but I've had it with those gear..

Midastouch73, Robart 150 series for the Byron/Ziroli Corsair. Sorry to see the ESM gear let you down. I'll never run them again. Or any Chinese gear set.

Matt, congrats on the flight. Wish I still had mine! ha

I found a set of gear to instal... My repairs are almost complete as well. Once I recover and paint the rudder she'll be ready to go again....

Finally, after almost one year of building, I had a successful Maiden flight today. Couple clicks of aileron trim was all that was needed despite a "twist" in the tail caused by a poorly laid-up fuselage. (Horizontal stab is strait but 1/4 inch higher on one side) The Saito 57 Twin screaming down the runway was a show-stopper at the club. The engine, flaps, Robart electric retracts, and all the gear doors worked flawlessly. Thanks again to all who contribute to this forum. Made this build much easier.

No video yet but will try again this weekend.

congratulations on the Maiden, how does it fly, what C of G did you use, mine is getting close, one more retract to go in, then another engine run, then check everything, balance it, then check it all again. Oldtimer.

This plane flys very very well. Not to difficult at all, as opposed to the building of it.

CG was exactly like in the manual. It flew perfectly with that number. I had a bit of crosswind so more rudder was needed. You might want to add a little more rudder throw than the manual suggests.

Heh guys,

I am gonna put my Corsair up for sale. Just not flying it much anymore (got the Turbine bug) and need the room and $$ to build a new jet. Should have an ad up here and on RCGroups in the next day or so. Mine has a DLE55 in it, Robart pneumatic mains and tailwheel along with pneumatic cylinders on the main doors, all operated via a UP3 valve. Lots of other details/extras. Flys great, has a nick and scratch here. If you know anybody looking for one ready to go, let me know.

Here is link to the ad: http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/ite...itemID=1013749

Finally got mine ready to start engine break in. Engine started on the third flip of the prop. Probably have to wait for Spring weather to fly. Here are some shots I took in the sunshine.

Gday Jim,

I used grey lead pencil for panel lines, applied some alloy colour paint on panel lines to emulate paint chipping. Also smudged the grey lead pencil with finger and spit. I also used a Tamiya weathering kit. It actually looks like a womans eye shadow, kinda smudge it on by finger, comes in metallic colours, also a bit of 800 grit sand paper here and ther ect, what ever I thought of at the time really, or had at hand.
I really wanted to make her looking beat up. Also good for any hangar rash that may occur.

Flew her today, starting to get the FG 84 tuned, it's a tricky engine this one. Fly's like a dream, mine is 16 kg. It don't fly heavy, very easy to land. Just a really good plane.
The big radial roaring and the super charger(fake, I used a product from scale warbirds in the UK I think. A whistle) whistling, on a low pass into a victory roll. To beautiful.

I'm starting to enjoy the Corsair.

Looking sweet bro, Corsair, in my opinion has gotta look filthy.

Agree. But if I had to do it over again, I would buy the H9 and strip it down.

Nah,

This plane flys, surprisingly nice. Mine is 16 kg. Don't fly like such a heavy plane.

G´day all,
finally did the maiden, it lifted off a bit slower than I had thought, but was very stable, wheels went up, flew it around for a while, bit of right aileron trim, was very nice to fly, did a few loops and rolls, no hassles, up high and slowed it down, it just glided around, a few more passes then slowed it down, half flap, wheels down, lined it up to land, full flap, power still on just a bit and it floated about half the length of the strip, then a slight bounce and it was running along the grass, very happy and relieved.
EME 70 Twin. 24x8 JXF style prop, just over 6k rpm, on the ground, ESM Air Retracts, came in at just over 15kg, but that doesnt seem to worry it at all. CofG 135mm back from the wing outer join, throws, nothing like the book, less than 1/2 in on elevators, bit over 1/2 in on Ailerons, it was easy to take off, less than 1in rudder to keep it straight.
very happy after the first flight.
Oldtimer.
