GOTTA LUV THE U BIRD , the mustang is a pretty airframe , the corsair is just beastly and more
rugged and the first time i saw one at an airshow , i couldnt believe how tall the thing was.
when you see one fly by slow , it almost sounds like a chopper because of the reduction
gearing . chance vaught was a real groung breaking company.

Hey guys,
We are just about ready to maiden the Corsair. We had a ton of issues with the electric retracts and eventually we got them swapped out for pneumatic ones. I see there are a lot of issues with the ESM gear. Are the issues isolated to the electric gear or do the pneumatic ones have issues as well? Thanks!

hi, I dont have any experience with the ESM electric gear, I have the ESM air system in my Corsair, it is good, it has some very minor problems, but no fails so far, they dont lock up, so the wheels come out a bit in a tighter turn, I have 4 other ESM War Birds with the ESM air gear, no real problems, the axles are too light, that is about all, I have 1 ESM Spitfire 72 in with C Jet air retracts, will never use them again,
I think the ESM War Birds are great models, look good and fly great, the 85 in Corsair is almost as good to fly as my TFGS P-47, it is like a big heavy trainer. give the Corsair full flap on landing and they just about stop in the air, just keep a bit of power on when landing. you will be very happy with the Corsair.

I bought the ESM electric retracts with mine, put them in, setting things up in the aircraft & one leg went crazy, the motor not stopping at the end of the cycle, I,ve now got Robarts in there instead, cus I know they won't let me down after the time & $$$s we put in.

Hi, the ESM air retracts lock down by the links between the strut and the air ram, you need to file one side to let them go just over centre, if you have the ESM air retracts pull them apart, every nut, bolt and screw, even inside the ram and put thread locker on every thread, check the bolt on the top of the strut every so often for slop. upgrade the wheel axle, it is a weak point.

Thanks for the info. After much debate I think we are going to swap them out for Robarts. Our gear is actually ESM electric converted to pneumatic and was built by KMP because there were no more electric retracts to replace them with. Don't really want to be a guinea pig with a $3000 airplane.
So we were pretty much set on using the 150's. Then we came across the set specifically for this model. However, that set uses the 148. The two issues there are they are only 90 degrees opposed to the 100 degree and they are 3/4" shorter. Would like to use a 5" wheel and I don't think it will fit with the 148's. They do have a nice mounting adapter though. Are the mounting holes for the 148 and the 150 the same (minus the 2 extra holes)?
What are you guys using? Recommendations? Also for the 150's which ones are you using?

I'm using the electrics on this Robart Page. They have the air version as well.

They are for the ESM Corsair. There is even a video. Install was easy but you will have to cut a little as shown in the video. I went with 4.5" wheels and still had to do some trimming in the wheel bay. The 5" would look more scale but no one will notice with the 4.5".

Well the wing folded today. Right down the center. The engine landed in soft mud so no damage except pushrods.
I really liked this plane. RIP Corsair.
PS. Anyone know the cowl ID of Top Flites P47 Razorback?

Terrible.
I cut my center open and layered CF on the ribs and inside as much as I could reach. So far so good, but I'm starting to see little hairline cracks. Fly nice but can not recommend buying another.

I've done the same as you, Jim. Carbon layers on the insides of the center-section. The main spar is carbonized too.

Hi
That's a real shame. The ARF P47 I've seen had a Saito R325 in it and the heads were just sticking out of the cowl in 3 places - the Saito is 225mm in diameter so the ARF cowl is 215 to 220mm diam - outside...no idea how thick the fibre glass was...

Orion really sorry for your loss. You obviously had a lot of time in on this plane. We who have built one can share your pain! I was wondering if you can share what you were doing when the wings folded. It looks like they both broke off of the center section. Any insight would be helpful to the rest of us. Thanks.

Orion09(Pete); here is a flight video link to an EVO 777 installed in a 27.5lb TF FW-190. Your EVO 777 will have plenty of power for the FW-190, notice how tight the cowl fits over the forward fuselage. The engine hot air exhaust outlet must be on the bottom of the cowl, I see no hot air air outlets on the sides where the dummy engine exhaust outlets are located.

hi, definitely gear up and tank empty, I used the book measurement. it will fly great then when the gear comes down the CofG moves forward which makes it great to land. give it heaps of flap, mine is great to fly, looks fantastic,
