Default 2003 Dino DiGiorgio Warbird Scale Classic photos

Hi All, I just got back from a fantastic weekend in beautiful Gilbertsville, NY at the WMWA Dino DiGiorgio Warbird Scale Classic. It was held at the Gilbertsville Polo Field, and I would like to thank the fine people of Gilbertsville for their hospitality, and the Oneonta RC Club for an outstanding job hosting the event. I would guesstimate that there were about 100 pilots and 200 airplanes that participated over the 3 day event. I'll be posting some photos that I took. Please, I don't have all of the pilots names, so if you recognize your airplane, please let me know who you are.

The award at Saturday nights banquet for the Pilots Choice Award went to Mitch Epsteins beautiful B-17 "Nine 'O Nine" from Don Smith plans. Best WWII went to Bill Stevik's fantastic FiberClassic P-51, "Arlene and Baby Too". Best Jet, was my Joe Saitta Me-262. And best WWI I'm sorry slips my mind at the moment...but I'll post it if I can get the correct info.

Dean DiGiorgio put on a fabulous Memorial Flight to his Dad, WMWA founder, Dino DiGiorgio, with Bill Stevik's P-51. The Saturday night memorial banquet highlight was the attendance of 3 of the Tuskeegee Airmen.

In short, it was a super weekend and I'm already looking forward to next years event.
Happy flying,
Rob Bailey / Pickupsticks

This first pic is of Dean's Memorial Flight to his Dad.

****a couple of the pics don't show...but if you click on the X I think you can get to them.

Hi All, better late than never! I just added some pilot/owner info on some of the great airplanes that were at the event. Thank's to Dean DiGiorgio for relaying this info to me.

Pilot unknown, but this is a real nice Me-109 from Dave Platt plans. Okay, I have recently been updated on the owner/builder of this super Bf-109, it belongs to Rick Boyer...
Thanks Dean for the info!

A super P-51 B...built and flown by a real nice gentleman, who's name escapes me at the moment.

Okay, this beautiful B'Stang belongs to Wash Martin and is the Zirolli prototype!

A nice Meister Scale Me-109...again, forgive my lapse of memory...forget the pilots name?
This Bf-109 was flown by Chris Costantino of the Misfit's...and is now owned by Tom Lamar of Peru, NY...I'm jealous Tom...you don't know how close I was to buying this baby on Friday!

Wingman, Sorry, I don't...I talked to this gentleman numerous times over the weekend and can't for the life of me remember his name...if it comes to me I'll let you know.

Barnyard, Well that is the hope...the host club Oneonta RC club was really happy with the turn out and the local support so it looks real good. It's a real nice site and the entire area up there is beautiful.
Happy flying,

Default Yearly deal for Dino

Rob,

I will be glad to attend next year if they decide to hold this again. This should be a annual event. BTW, I think it's "Helene and baby too"

Hi Carey, That makes two of us! I'll definitely be there. I think the odds are in our favor...everything was great right down to the food which was run by the local NJHS...good and very reasonable prices too. Everyone I met there, in the entire area, not just at the fly-in, ws friendly and very interested and supportive of the hobby. Dean has some big shoes to fill, but I'm sure that he'll do just fine. He is a real good guy and loves this hobby every bit as much as his Dad did.

Hey, have you had any luck finding a Meister FW yet?

Happy flying,
Rob Bailey / Pickupsticks

Dean will do just fine and yes, he is a good guy. I have all the stuff for the Meister, engine, gear, kit, servos. I am in the documentation mode....... Look for a build thread here about September 1st. Maybe will take it to NY next year.

Hi Todd, Yeh, it was a good turn out...and lot's of real nice airplanes. Met some old friends and made some new ones...what more can you ask for? If you don't mind, could you post Seans pics to this thread...or ask him to do so. I'd like to have a nice representation for Dean to see upon his return home to Florida.
Happy flying,
Rob

As if I didn't feel bad enough about missing the event due to work, you have to show all these awsome models!

That must have been one great show! From the photos you posted it looks like there were some very nice models and some great flying going on. As soon as the date is set for next year, I will start planning to go. Even if I have to quit my job!!!!!

I'll have my B-17 done by then (I hope).

Thanks for taking the time to post the photos. At least I got to see some of the planes.

I'll post some pictures this evening, not a problem! I wasn't there friday, but sounds like I missed a pretty good shower. I made it up early saturday and stayed until late morning sunday. The weather was great, the people even better, and the planes and flying, yet still better! Sounds like they are keen to put the event on again next year, and I'm sure if this years event is any indication, next year will be even bigger!

Todd, Thanks. Yeh, I reckon every model has it's flaws hey! But it was really a great extra treat to have that big bird there!

Sean, Great, more pics will be appreciated by all. Yeh it was a great time for sure...I can't wait until next year! I followed the rain up on Friday, it was always ahead of me so I didn't get too wet!

Hans, Yeh don't miss it...another B-17 will be awesome...Mitch Epsteins was beautiful and took the Pilots Choice Award! Hey my daughter went to White Pines College in Chester! I didn't know anyone flew up there??? :-)

Take care all,
Rob
