check the stock status. same thing Tower says late Jan. They have been saying this for months. late sept, late oct, late nov.... Next it will be discontinued. I was lucky to get a new fuselage and stab. I hope can find a cowl now.

Ok folks, I'm going with the P-40 and not P-36. Can't get cg without adding at least half pound of weight in the front. So I'll be using he P-40 cowl. Sorry, it's not on the market. Over all the ARF has been ok. I really don't know why they discontinued this one. It seemed to me it was selling good. Any way, I've put in the electrical system and ignition system, fuel system and tank. Got the cockpit done last night. I ordered a JTech compact muffler for the DLE 20. Looks like total weight well be about 11.25 lbs and the cg close enough that it can be adjusted by moving one battery. A lot of little things left to do.

Just saying, why not step up to the 50cc size? I have 2 and they fly great. I still have my 20cc size as well, but the bigger ones fly more often.

Nothing wrong with the 50cc size. I actually got the this size P-40 with the idea of converting to a P-36. That didn't work out because of weight/cg concerns. Also I already have the retracts, struts, prop, spinner, engine and servos that I can use on this plane. So far the only item I had to purchase is a J Tech pitts muffler.

Now that I am a member of a real RC club lol , I am thinking of going up to the 50CC size . The plane seems like a real value for its size. I also found one last Golden ARF 60 size at a hobby shop virtually hidden on a high high top shelf.
I could not pick it up for Xmas because I made other purchases before finding this plane !! However I am going back !
To say I am P40 nut is an understantment.
These are two 79" P40 E , EPO eflight 110 powered planes , one 66" P40 N .
All have powered canopys and the two 79" have animated pilots !
Last part of the missing collection is the Gold Edition P40 60 size and going to gas on the P40 1/5 size !

I miss mine terribly, it flew so well. It went in this summer because of a fuel line breaking off inside the tank and after making a low pass over the field and pulling up she quit and not enough speed to make it back in. Broke the whole nose off at the firewall but no damage to the wing, so I ordered a new fuselage and will rebuild this winter but need a cowl. I think that TF is slowly moving all their warbirds to the Giant scale side. Shame because not all of us have a field or pocketbook big enough to support a GS plane. By the time you outfit a 60 size arf you have $ 1000 invested.

rapture boy, Sorry to hear about the loss. I'm using the P-40 cowl because I think the plane will be lighter not having to add weight to the nose. (also because I lost my VQ P-40 as a result of radio failure). I can offer you the P-36 cowl. You will have to cut off the nose 2" and put all weight as far forward as possible but will probably have to add weight. May have to alter the cowl some to reduce it's rear circumference. The cowl is from the old BH P-36.

thanks for the offer RBEAN I'm going to hold out for one of the originals, I have a B.O in with tower. I may even consider building out the nose the way the kits were done and then use the chin cowl from FG Specialties.

raptureboy, actually I have the lower cowl for the kit. Its used but ok. You can have it for the cost of postage/shipping.

What about the aftermarket guys like Fiberglass specialties ? I thought they made a Gold Edition cowl ?

Fiberglass specialties only makes the old Non-Gold Edition half cowl for the P-40.

No the gold Edition is listed but its for the kit , is the ARF same format as the kit ?

The arf is not the same as the kit. The arf cowel is top and bottom, the kit only the chin.

Nearing completion of the P-40. Got in the pilot, some of the marking on. The DLE 20 is mounted at a slight angle to give more room for the exhaust on the left side. No cut outs in the cowl except for fueler, exhaust and access to needles, but it's covered with a hatch. I actually had to move the batteries back some to get cg. One at the rear of wing saddle and the other above the fuel tank. (I might have been able to make the P-36 configuration work). Total weight 11.4 lbs with cg at 3.25 inches with the gear up. Too bad the 60-90 size ARF balsa warbirds seem to be going the way of the dodo bird. I like planes in the 65 to 75 in wing span size because they fly better than smaller ones and are easier to see. Also fit in he vehicle easier and are not as expensive as a GS where you might have as much as $2,000 in a warbird or more. I lost a couple of plane because of electronic problems. Would have been worse if they were GS.

Also used the top scoop to duct air back to the carb to keep it cool to avoid vapor lock and leaning problems.

Very nice, but are you going to get enough cooling air to flow through? Without any cut out at the bottom I think you will have an issue on a hot summer day. I created a duct right at the chin scoop to force air through the fins and opened the bottom up at the exhaust pipes. I wish I had made a mold of my cowl now so I could make another one. I have one on B.O with tower but not holding my breath.

I think I'll be ok with cooling. This is very similar to the set up I had with my kit built Top Flite P-40 with a DLE 20. Didn't have any over heating problems with that one. Just flying problems due to weight and lack of wash out. Never crashed it, but I came close a couple of times. I hope this one flies better. It should as it is lighter and has wash out.

Good deal, I had some issues with mine with the same engine but solved it by cutting out the holes in the front of the cowl and adding some sheet fiberglass to duct the air right over the engine. I really miss flying mine and if I don't find a cowl soon I will try to salvage mine by repairing it. Good luck on the maiden

raptureboy, got to thinking about your comments re cooling. The cowl flaps on the old P-40 with the BH cowling were in the open position. On this one I measured as best I could and it seems the total intake area is about 3.25 square inches. Exit area is only about 3 sq inches. If I open the cowl flaps up at about a 30 degree angle, then that opens the total exit area up to about 7.5 to 8 sq. inches. Almost 2.5 to 1. That should be enough since I'm not going to be doing 3D with this plane. Here are pictures of the old one's intake and exit areas which worked well enough.
