Ziroli Stuka wheel spats mounting question

Ok guys I need some more help on my Ziroli stuka. I need to get my wheel spats mounted, and I was wondering how the best way to mount them is?
The Spats from Ziroli come with white ABS mounts but they are much smaller than the inner dimensions of the spats so im a litte apprehensive how to go about doing this.
Im using my own 1/4 inch bent steel wire landing gear as well. So if anyone has some pics and explanation of how they did theirs I would be greatly appreciative.
Dont really know if it matters much either but my wing is a 3 piece like some of you have done before.

    Thanks
    Curt

RE: Ziroli Stuka wheel spats mounting question

I suggest that you mount the spats to the landing gear, and not the wing. The LG flexes on landing, sometimes forcing wing mounted spats through the sheeting. Leave 1/4" space between the spat and the wing.

I threw the ABS spat covers away. As you said, they don't fit. They are cosmetic, not intended for mounting the spats.

RE: Ziroli Stuka wheel spats mounting question

Here's what I had to do for a Curtiss A12 I designed. A single piece of 1/4 inch piano wire will not be sturdy enough. I used a Robart 1/2 inch strut with a fork for the wheel. The strut was epoxied into a maple mount and the mount was epoxied to a plywood base. Maple motor mounts were epoxied to plywood ribs in the wing. The wheel pant was screwd to the wing with nylon screws as break away devices. The plane weighs 20 pounds. Maybe this will help. Dan.
