Default Unknown Corsair retract tailwheel...anyone know about it?

I picked this up at a swap meet in a box of miscellaneous 1/5 scale warbird parts. I have never seen this one before so thought someone out there might know about it. It is well made and includes the tail hook. It is for 1/5 Corsair.

I'm not sure how the geometry works for the tail hook nor what the additional parts are for other than some parts are for mounting the unit. Also note some sort of adjustment tool in the upper left of the photo. There were no instructions.

Any help is appreciated. I don't have a 1/5 scale Corsair so I may part with it.

That tail wheel was designed for the Ziroli Corsair by Earl for the modelers entering Scalemasters competitions or Topgun.

Yes, that was made by Earl Aune - it says so in the paperwork. I bought one in 1/6 scale from him. I reshaped the tailhook though.
Earl has moved and has started a new job and no longer makes retractable gear unfortunately.
If you want to part with it, check with some of the guys here:

I saw the information on the lid label but wanted some hands on experience.

Mind telling me what you paid for the 1/6 version?

I will put a fair price on it so it is a good deal for a Corsair builder. The box of stuff I bought was mostly for the Top Flite 1/5 Thunderbolt and it wasn't cheap.

Sorry Dick, it was several years ago so I don't recall what I bought it for but I'll check to see if I still have the email from Earl.

Earl Aune was a master scale builder, specializing in Corsairs. He marketed very accurate tailwheels for Corsairs in several sizes. You have a very valuable tailwheel assembly, don't let it go cheaply.
