Default I want a Big plane for a Moki 250

I have decided to purchase a Moki 250, I just love the sound! My desire is to buy a composite type of warbird arf. I have narrowed the field to a C-Arf Corsair, a Bahs Corsair, Scale Wings LA7, Airworld fw190 and a Easy Tiger Gee Bee R3 (I know it is not a warbird but it is very cool looking! I have had several C-Arf planes and I know their quality but I do not know anything about the others. Can any of you tell me about the quality and/or performance of the others I mentioned? Did I leave out any manufactuer that I should check out?

Go for the 1/4 scale Wildcat! Flys real well. Can be lean and mean[sm=48_48.gif] and handles like a p***ycat[sm=angel_smile.gif]. One of the best I've flown to date. Der Geotz has these too!!!

good luck to you,

Scott that wildcat is fantastic, what a beautiful plane. Is the landing gear reliable?

If you think that sounds great, get the C-Arf F7F Tigercat and go twin Moki 250's, then you'll have something to talk about.

Hey dos007,

I've got about two dozen flights on this bird annd she's been a total joy. Gear is very reliable. Sturdy as a concrete bunker! I've never flown a plane that was so smooth, graceful and easy to fly yet can screem around and terrorize anything willing to come up and fly with you. It really can present itself as the real thing. Check out the picture my buddy took! The Moki 250 and Solo Prop combine for the ultimate sight and sound. So sweet I get all giddy just talking about it! Gotta getcha one.

I got mine through Graham Buchanan. He built it and did the awesome metal painted finish. He is first rate all the way and fairly reasonable...get what you pay for and a dream to work with. You can find him here: http://www.tigermodels.net/

Good luck and keep us posted. Have you been visiting the Moki Care and Maintenence thread on the Warbirds Forum? You should. Let me know if I can help you in any way.

All the best,
Scott

Thanks Scott for the reply. I have added the Wildcat to my list and I have also sent Graham a e-mail. I have followed the Moki thread and the Carf Corsair thread while trying to learn as much as possible before spending this much cash. I plan to pull the trigger on the purchase within the next 2 weeks and if you don't mind I would like to call you to ask a few questions. I think my list is down to the Wildcat, CArf Corsair, and the Scale Wings LA7.

I have a 1/5 Bates Wildcat and it flys great also. I don't know of a better flying warbird that is as uncommon as the Wildcat. Be different

Scott thanks for all the info the other night I will be leaning on you for your knowledge of these big birds.

As for the Wildcat it looks like it is sliding down on the list as there seems to be no landing gear available. Bummer because that really is my first choice. I am currently waiting on Graham to get back to me on a few things and then it will be time to take the plunge!

If you get the fixed wing Comp-Arf Corsair, you can have two of them for the price of the others you are looking at. It is a bargain but then you cannot fold the wing up while returning to the pit............ oh well

Gear for the wildcat should be available soon. I know that Sierra is working on them.

is the gear for the big wildcat at question here, and is that the one darrel is doing gear for? if so, i am not sure why. the gear that came with my cat from gunther and graham are as stout and reliable as they come. my right side colapsed once at top gun. the model floated and touched down in the rougher part of the make shift runway. eventually with the shocks taking the bumps, the gear lock went over center and closed causing the model to drift onto the tarmac. this is the only time this has happened. my cat is as smooth of a flyer as i have ever owned. graham and gunther are two great guys to work with too.

the Seafury is a nice plane as well. what kit is it? There are so many nice planes and limited time to fly them (and build). If the gear gets sorted out I am going with a Wildcat if not then it really is a toss up between the LA7 and the Corsair, unless another model enters the picture at the last minute.

OK I am ready but dealers aren't. My first choice is the Wildcat but retracts are not available. The second choice is the LA7 but again no retracts. Bearcat might be OK. The Carf Corsair is still a posibilty but i want something that you don't see everyday. Sea Fury is nice but I can't find a composite one. I sure wish the landing gear for the Wildcat was available! where's the big composite p-47? Maybe I'll get lucky and someone will sell a finished plane...still waiting on Graham to reply.

I gotta hear that Moki!

The 3W Bearcat is a nice match for the Moki 250.

Lots of postings about mine here on RCU over the years. Only bummer is you'll have to use straight (non-scale) gear. Darrell at Sierra has a set that uses some stock mechanics with a sorta-scale strut. Works perfectly, but is not articulating like it should be.

The only supplier that I know if with articulating gear for this 1/4 scale B'Cat is CJ, and I had a set .. they are not well designed and were not reliable for me. Otherwise a great flying airplane.
