while trying to figure out how to mount the throttle choke and air valve servos i found an old plastic servo tray, you know, the kind they supply you with your radio, the kind you never use...I havent used one of these since my first airplane

I flew my G62 at about half to three quarters throttle for 22 minutes yesterday and used about 14 ounces out of a twenty four ounce tank. Forty ounces ought to fly all day without refueling.

I run a 24oz on my G62. I set my timer for 10 minute flights and have about 1/4 tank reserve left over. (I think).

Hey Edwin, I think the G62 is probably just wanting to get into the air but He would have a whole lot more room in the P47 cowl Thats a DA85 for field of view

Edwin, yea that's me! Randy Larson and I flew the P40's together at Austin and Bomber a couple of years ago. We had a blast !! Then he went back to racing cars again ??? Go figure ?? Well, people seem to like a P40 and they get more attention. It was basically the best thing we had then we got into WW2. I guess it was a symbolic plane, but it really is a sharp lookin' plane too ! The flying tigers was the popular scheme, but there were alot of other schemes that people never saw. It still have my old SS P40 but it needs some repair on it. Couldn't pass up the Ebay deal and decided to start over using all the parts off the old one. Paul

n8622t, I run a BME 50 and 20x12 APC with a 32 oz tank. 8 oz extra nose weight with batteries outside engine box in fuse. Get about 10 - 12 minutes of full throttle and leaves 10 minutes reserve fuel. Reserve is slow flying around waiting for clearance to land which is a must at some meets like Bomber Field. 40 oz would easily get you 30 minute flights once the Da 50 is broke in. The CG is measured right at the wing/fuse area. Just move it 3/8 to 1/2 forward and it should be fine for your first flights. You will like this plane once you get used to it. It does have a different feel to it than anything else. By the way, once your engine box is glued in, there is an area under it in the fuselage front to put the ignition box and battery. Accessable by cutting a door out from front with a dremel and reattaching it with screws and wood planks. It will be awhile before I get to the paint on mine. Haven't even started on the wing. Fuse is 1/2 done. I plan on putting panel lines and rivets on wing and tail. Will take some pictures on progress as I am a very slow builder.

OK guys, Ive been hitting it hard for four days now and tomorrow is the fifth straight...do you ever notice that the more you get accomplished on a model the more you find what needs to be done? I was hoping for the maiden this weekend but now it seems to be slipping away. Oh well Ill just keep plugging away. Hey Paul, you mean 3/8 to 1/2 inch forward of the specified cg in the manual? Just want to make sure when I begin the balance process. All the batteries are going inside the engine box next to the firewall and the ignition will be in there as well. Im using four batteries, 2 2000mah 4.8 for the ignition and 2 2700mah 6.0 for the receiver, all Nimh. Since I did put the two servos in the tail I'm hoping the batteries will help compensate...cg is definitely critical and I want to get it right the first time. Thanks for the help fellas

Jimmy

3/8" to 1/2" forward from factory manual CG. If you have the retractable tail wheel, don't be surprised if you have to add more nose weight even with all those batteries up front. DA 50 is light, but PLENTY of motor for this bird. A 20 x 12 APC prop for easy cruising speed at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. Mine weighs 24 lb 9 oz. and feels light in the air. Use only 25- 30% flaps on calm to 10 mph wind. Flaps not really needed on winds higher than that. Needs quite a bit right rudder on takeoffs. Need to hit right rudder again on landings as it torques to left on weight shift. Yours may be different but keep that in mind on the maiden. Take your time on getting this plane ready. Check, check and recheck again. I've seen to many planes go in because of getting in a hurry to fly it. Call me crazy, but I have a superstition. Cameras are jinxed. Do not take any pictures of your plane ON THE DAY of the maiden flight until AFTER the maiden flight is complete. No videos of the maiden flight either !! Once the maiden flight is over, take all pictures and videos you want. Oh, tell all the club hecklers and loudmouths to SHUTUP before the maiden. We need 100% concentration on all maiden flights, dammit !! Get the picture? Paul

Sorry I got carried away, you don't know the clubs I've been in. All really great guys though. Good fun to be in. That's what this plane needs is a nice cockpit. Looking forward to see how you do it. Planes looking really good so far! Paul

here are first cockpit pics...I cut the fuselage open and add some epoxy to the joints of the original servo tray since the opening of the cockpit may weaken the fuse sides. Then started cutting the interior sides sorry the pics wont load will try again later

I never noticed the difference in aft portion of the canopy till earlier this week. Then yesterday on the military ch they did the Great Planes show on the P-40 and the white tail restoration at the beginning of the show looked the same as the SS P-40. Learned something new.
