Started converting the DHC4 three view to vector in CAD, turns out the FG20 center-line to top of valve covers is +-4" and my cowling at 9.81:1 scale C-7 would have 16" props at a cowling center-line to top of the augmenter tubes is +-4". Based on my experience with the FG20 at this altitude so far, the 16X6X3 should be adequate. That would also be 117" span and 88.75" length and I'd like to build to 18-20lbs. Also, based on my DHC2, I think I have an idea for the full span double slotted flap that should be relatively simple. Elevator will be electronic mixing rather than mechanical like the full size. I'm just left thinking about the augmenter tubes and how best to make them durable and functional.

How is the Caribou coming?
I am looking to build one in the 120-144" span range. A good friend of mine was a loadmaster on these in Nam and has expressed interest in seeing his old plane modelled. If you are willing, perhaps we could combine efforts, such as for nacelle fabrication. I could take on some CAD work too, depending. I also have access to a 48" bed laser cutter.
Let us know how it's going...

too bad it seems stalled right now, which in some way is fine for me as I've been having personal issues and unable to do any modeling recently. If I can get past my issues and they still won't kit it (he did send me the basic plan - no bulkheads or ribs) I'd be happy to work with you on the project. If you're raring to go right now, just contact Neptune in the scaleRC forum for details on his design. he did some beautiful work.
as far as my original twin question - the C7 is still leaps and bounds in front of any other ideas for me. It's just such an amazing aircraft with just the right technical challenge I love.

I looked at that link and that looks very much like what I want. Perhaps having more than one customer interested would get SLEC's attention. Especially interested because the glasswork is already done. I found the thread on the aussie site as well. Since Neptune released the plans on pdf, I wonder if he'd give up the CAD. I could cut laser parts here for cheap. But would still want to get the fiberglass parts....
