Default .60-.90 Texan II by Seagull/Horizon

Anyone know anything about this plane ?
Seagull seems to be just about the same as BlackHorseModels .
Blackhose has a .60-.90 size available in Europe with a different covering scheme and acually has flaps, but there's no sign of it comming to the states.
They also have a 1.20 version comming out (see Hobby people website) but it's more expensive than the KMP/ESM plane wich is alot more plane for the money-though it does come with retracts.
See this link for info on the Seagull plane: http://www.modelairplanenews.com/ME2...1B89000E106D2C

Could be a speed deamon with a hot engine, say a .90 or 1.20 2 stroke

Okay, so I broke down and bought one of these...
I've always thought it was pretty wicked looking.
f I wasn't soo pressed for time, I would like to re-cover the whole thing in a better scheme than the typical USAF get-up, maybe later, I wanted to get down to see what she coud do, and focus on flying.
Soooo, this will be a relatively stock build as it looks nice enough for the most part for my taste.

Here are a few more inspiational images, to get the juices flowing on what I think what many to consider as a mundane Trainer...I think with the right mods, this plane could be a real firecracker.

I ordered a set of custom lights for this lil hottie from TinyBritelights.com, I'm not going for super scale as the plane is not, but a few lil' extras here and there on this plane will be just the polish she needs to be a crowd pleaser.
Overall, it's a very well made ARF, and I'm impressed with the packaging, the contents, and surprisingly, even the instructions.
The hardware is what is to be expected of an ARF and changing it out would be nice, but for the flying I intend to to, it should suffice nicely.
The decal/ stickers are nothing short of terrible however. Again, I want to get her into the air and from 3 feet away, So they will have to do, but If i do end up re-doing her, it won't mater I suspect. They look okay enoght, but are low quality with spelling worse than mine and should be trimmed to the edge of th markings to help clean them up .
I'll be using E-Flight electric retracts as I'm not a fan of mechanial gera anymore.
The fuselage has loads of ample room and made radio install a sinch!
There were even to locations pre cut from the fuse for the builder to choose from power/ charge jack installations.

Here's the updated cockpit, showing the repainted stock pilots, printed instruments and the rest is made from cardboard stock, wood and wire. note the cordite ejection blast cord line at the top of the canopy. This probably isn't the best pic to see it that well.
There is a magnetic hatch forward of the canopy for batery access (if one decided to go the dark ways of the electrics) which the viewer can see is off in this pic.
I intend to add a smoke system to this plane, and that will be a perfect fill/ access point.

Here's the continued engine runs (no cowling) and fuel/ smoke access hatch open.
The tru-turn aluminum cowl looks soo much better than the stock plastic one.
I also decreased the size/ dia of the nosewheel, to give a slightly more scale look.

So, here's the downside of theis plane. Decals and (like many ARF's) the alignment of the color-scheme, from fuselage to cowling & canopy.
These pics show just a few issues with the decals: 1). translucency of the star & bar decal (see blue comming through underneath...I had cut the red stripe, so that part wasn't comming through). 2)otice the spelling of "handhold". I didn't want to even put these on the plane, but decided it was a good comedy/conversation piece to have the phonetic-slang/ interpretation listed as "handhode".
3). the stickers were rubberlike with a strange adhesive and needed to be trimmed as close to the image as possible to avoid the slop surround as seen on some of these (I did trip closely around some, and they look much better).
4). the alignment of the color scheme of cowl. The colors are off 1/16-1/8th of an inch- see black, blue and red transitions... I remedied this with a sharpie on the black, and turned the red into a "Zig" to clean it up.
I'm normally more of a stickler, but as I said, for what the plane is; at 3-5 feet away, it still passes most 'OK by me' squint-scale aesthetics test.

Here she is at the field yesterday...2 prefligt pics, 1 post flight.
Before assembling the wing, I glued in hardpoints to the wings spars for rockets/ munitions, but I haven't finished those items and really want to see her performance prior to adding extra drag.
The nav lights work well, but aren't really visible in the pics...They work like a charm~
This plane really moved out and and didn't behave like a trainer, but it could have been my enine / speed updates.
If I do say so myself, she looked menacingly-wicked in the air!
Tracked like an arrow.
I lost significant power after about 4 minutes of flight...Brought her in safely. I have her set up with flaperons since the US version of this plane doesnt come with flaps (I've seen that the European BHM vesion does) So, she slowed nicely for the emergency. short field landing.
I'm thinking the engine was overheating and perhaps the exit port in the mufflwr is too small (that is a .60 size MACS muffer I'm using, that has been slightly drilled out for the 90FX.)..I just don't really know how big to make the hole.
Anyone have any sugestions ?

Here's some reference images I used. I simply went on-line looking for any info / details on cockpits including helmut & uniform details.
Most bits n pieces are made from cardboard, scrap balsa, thin guage clear plastic, wood/ dowels and wire.

yep, retracts are in... I didn't use oleos,
I've flown the plane about 12 x, and it does very well. With a 14x8 prop and the OS 90, it really hauls booty. I did however have to change back to the stock muffler.
The last time it overheated and had to make a wheels up landing in the grass.
P.S> I did make gear doors for my 2 main wheels...I'll get a pic ir two of this.
Note to all: the belly/ tail fins looked like they could do some damage if one had a belly landing, so I glued in the belly fins with a flexible adhesive like silicone at just a few key points, the way, if you have to make a wheels up like I did, the fins will pull out from the belly without any damage to the fuselage. It was no sweat to just stick them back on.

This seems to be the only thread I can find on this airplane. There seems to be very little information anywhere else. I have been a long time nitro guy but am looking at building this kit as an electric. I only have experience with Seagulls Extra 260. I powered it with a YS 1.20 4-stroke and although it had a few quirks during building the plane fly's great! I am wondering what the retracts that come standard with this kit look like? I fly off of grass and if the retracts are not beefy then I will have to keep looking at other kits. How does the airplane fly? I want something fast and scale looking with few bad habits. The kit is selling here in Canada for $249.99. Thanks

The plane is designed t
For either electric & nitro...even has a battery hatch just in front of the cockpit.
I hab
Vent experienced any bad habburs yet. It likes coordinated turns with a lil rudder. TO & landings areva since. Just wish it had flaps. Check outvthe blackhorse version with German markings... It has flaps and air retracts but the price reflects it.
The seagullb
Barf ISVs very nice plane. Im currently working on making fuel pods n drop tanks.
Wilk oust pics when I can

This is the first thread I've been able to find about this plane.  I've just about got one finished.  What CG are you flying at?
