RE: F4U arf with folding wings

This is part of the EPO craze , I just bought the 65 A1 Skyraider , three airbrakes , rorating retracts , 4 blade prop ect .
I have the smaller 55" Corsair , P40 and P47 , I am not going back to fuel , perhaps gas but never glow ;) , these babys are just too much fun .
Now there is a 66" p40 , split flaps , scale gear , ect and they fly like dreams .
seems to have missed RCU crowd , but very very active on the "other site" and on eforums .
Dont let the EPO scare you , its much stronger then balsa and new technoligy has it baby smooth when painted

Some examples of EPO , these are the 55" size , incredible flying warbirds because they have incredibly light wing loading !!!

RE: F4U arf with folding wings

Forgot to say , even the gear doors on the corsair work with a door sequencer and it comes that way !!! I added the weathering and interiors and some added details to the pilots .

RE: F4U arf with folding wings

I love the fact that they have working wheel doors and retractable tailwheels, all standard stuff now, but folding wings? I thought that was just for giant scale.

LDM 07-01-2011 02:57 PM

RE: F4U arf with folding wings

I know , its very cool and servo activated , not to menthion easy transport to the field .They are all getting bigger , it started with 1100 mm then 55mm now the larger size in the 64" to 66" .
There is even talk of a 81"P40 being developed . Take a look at the P47 on rcwarz !!
Hobby King has just released the 66" P40 , supposedly really tested the retracts and flight , aprox price is about $300 with all the works but the receiver , battery and trans .
Too large to ship to the USA but HK USA warhouse will be getting them.
Most threads that attract the fuel guys are really bashing these into very scale models .Guys are removing paint , decals ect , adding larger motors , esc , sliding canopys ect .
But again I cant stress just how well they fly , no stall characteristics because "there light"

IL2windhawk 07-01-2011 03:22 PM

RE: F4U arf with folding wings

Think you could fiberglass one of those? All my foamies end up with dents in them eventually. Otherwise, i would be fully on board

IL2windhawk 07-01-2011 03:25 PM

RE: F4U arf with folding wings

Oh yeah... and i like stall characterstics on my warbirds :)
It doesn't feel like a warbird unless it's pushing itself into the turns a little bit. Does that make any sense to anyone?
High wingloading really makes them come alive. powerdives accelerate faster, etc.. I'd probably load my fiberglassed foamy with lead

RE: F4U arf with folding wings

Neat looking models. If I were going to go to the trouble to glass these, the first thing I'd do would be to fill the "panel lines". I don't know why they make them so pronounced on the foamys. If you enlarged the plane to full size, they would be at least a half inch wide and as deep.

Oh, BTW, a good photographer never takes a photo of his own shadow! http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...wink_smile.gif

RE: F4U arf with folding wings

lol, you guys crack me up !!
Ok , you can glass them , sheet them , use flite skin , just like any arf its really about what ever level you want .
As far as wing loading , same deal , its personal choice, I have built Top Flight , Pica and many more ,every warbird I had was in the 125 4 stroke to 180 .I never ever built one with the intention of making them behave "heavy" and yes I understand your statement and feeling in what you like , I think that is great , but its not for me.
My 1/6 Scale Pica P40 was hollowed out at every possible point and it flew fantastic , again not a debate on weight , just what I like .
These FMS warbirds will not fill the need for a "real feel" , what they will do is provide a durable , fun scale plane that you take to the field and simply plug and fly.
I have gone out as late as 7:30 , with an hour of sun left and got in 6 flights , no hassel ect .
As a result I am bashing a 71" CMP Hellcat to Eletric as well as the KMP corsair and many more . Now they are heavy !!! but still lighter then most who have made the conversions.
"a good photographer never takes a picture of his own shadow " lol are you always that anal lol , they were cell phone pics to document some questions others had on the planes on a eforum :) , next time I will paint one for you :D

RE: F4U arf with folding wings

I'm with ya' LDM: a lot of these guys have never seen, let alone studied how the full scales look in flight. The are acually quite manueverable, compared to the heavy warbirds that we modelers build. And they do NOT accelerate as quickly either, unless they are being catapulted off of a carrier deck.

I've always been a proponent of 'Lighter is Better', which goes against the thought process of the many who believe warbirds actully fly and look better when they are heavy.

I'll admit: the panel lines are always pronounced, but not that difficult to fill in if it bothers 'ya.

I'm looking forward to owning one of these folding wing, sequenced gear door Corsairs, but I'll wait until they come out with a F4U-1D OR earlier version.

RE: F4U arf with folding wings

Thanks and great points all around CorsairJock . I remember learning to fly warbirds, and getting the laundry list of "what to watch for , what to do ect" lol . IN reality if someone simply told me "keep them light" i would have advanced so much faster and enjoyed warbirds much longer .
You doing the right thing on waiting on the corsair. This is what i dont know yet , its either made by Starmax or an executive who left starmax.
The A-1 I am waiting for is from Starmax and in eop foamyy jets ect , there rep is still questionable but with competition from FMS , they know they had to clean up there act .
The new P40 from Hobby King 66" is a new plane from individuals who left Starmax and there was some great info on the testing protical ect , so only time will tell .
On the other popular site for RC under eletric warbirds the guys in the states have just received the first one (A1 skyraider)from ET. So they are starting to do the unbox , so far so good but factory packaging is leaving some qc questions .
On the cosrair my early questions were "servos" they tend to use 9 gram , and the 9 gram are not medal gear . The 9 gram servos were just "ok" in the 55mm warbirds , do they really need to make sure the servos are larger . I know on the wings they used 17 grm for the folding mechanisum but dont know about the rest of the plane.
Example of what i am concerend the new team who released the P40 from Hobby King is useing full size servos , great example of the new attention to detail.
The retracts the P40 is a heavy duty tiller arm , The corsair has not released details if the are a tiller arm or work gear .The worm gear on the smaller 55mm rotating applications has been a problem . Even high grass can bend the internal worm gear . You can get replacements easily for $8.00 a set but its a pain to remove , reassemble and reinstall !!!
Anyway thats all info I have for now , CorsairJock , i am taking your lead in converting many of my fuel planes to eflight , I only wish I did it years ago . I have a finished H9 corsair and I need to make the conversion , there is just so so many benifits I cant list them all !!!
As far as light , I will stay focused on what I have seen and learned like you , the old saying that came right from mouths of the early WW2 developers "we dont build them to crash , we build them to fly" .Everything that was in those planes was needed not in an attempt to be heavy , but to survive

RE: F4U arf with folding wings

I want to show you all the company who is manufacturing this model so there no mistake. It cracks me up when a reseller say we design it and we this and we that when in fact all they did is purchase a container full and start branding there name all over it.

So the next time when company's like easy tiger, banana hobbies and others start saying they design the model you can wake up to the fact they design nothing

Gee, when has THAT become something new?

Throughout my entire life I've seen people try, with success, to take credit for others efforts. In many aspects.

I make model graphics, but I see others copy my stuff all the time. I had one graphics guy purchase my Mulligan stuff, now he flaunts my efforts for correctness.

What people lack in character and ability, they will steal.

Nothing new, it won't go away, and means very little.

Unless, of course, you let it. :D

LDM
do you have one of these corsairs?

LDM 07-07-2011 06:01 PM

RE: F4U arf with folding wings

No sir dont have the plane
the good thing about the corsair is that they are useing better servos from what I have learned vs the 9 gram .
Personally I like the folding wings for transpertation only , I prefer to worry about flaps , doors ect and flying stability . I mean look at this way, I will eventually buy this plane , but sits funny how they go to all the trouble to make the wing fold (excelant feature) but they get the landing gear doors all wrong lol . I am not anal , I would still buy it , its just funny :)

Toysn909 ??? really lol , lets see look up any company including the one in your backyardHobby People and look at how much research they do on there own . I mean the Magnum line of engines are relabeled ASP engined lol .
Look at the once famous KMP line lol , and when it comes to Banana Hobby , you have to be the only guy not laughting silly at Pete and his incredible use of giant words like "hey Rc flyers we have a superfantasticincrdibilistic plane that we spent years with blitz rc , nasa and 10 x secret ibm aeronautic secret specialist working on this piece of foam that cost us $899 , but we list it at $699 and we will sell you my speacial buddy pallie friend for $499:)
While so many hate Hobby King , I have been lucky and I can tell you I am buying the same planes that BH , and Hobby Lobby sold much higher , so the China factpries know they need sales and if these distributors continue to try to keep margins high , the factories are finding more way and more distributors to sell .
Bh has definitly lost its steam on some exclusive brands , some of the higer end epo jets are being sold via three or 4 distributors vs just BH /
So dont take Pete toooo serious , for one he is a great flyer , two his videos are funny , I skip to about 2.5 mins on avg cutting out the sales pitch and just watch the flight video .
In the end you will find that most planes come from the same place and even Horison , Tower and Hobby Lobby deal with the same challenges , the only differance is they gave developed there own brand lable with Top Flight , Hanger 9 and BlackHorse

LMAO, he wasn't taking a photos of his own shadow he was taking a photo of his plane. Ahem, BTW "photographers" don't call it "taking a photo", they call it shooting or shots.

RE: F4U arf with folding wings

619 yes but the only corsair I know that outside of foam that is a folding wing option is major dollars , its featured in another build thread on rcu . I dont know where SanMarcos Cal is but the guys who had a build thread was from Gyro Hobbies in Southern Cal . There is also a small Hellcat (Foam ) with Folding wings that are manually released and fold in a scale manner for display and transportation , then you unlock , open , lock and fly .

Thanks Blake lol , and my shadow was quite impressive if I must say !!!

Bro, I laugh at that guy all the time!! I think Pete is an Idiot, I don't care for the guy!! I see him at the flying field all the time he reminds me of greasy used car salesman! It would be 100 degrees and he is wearing a beanie very strange...LOL

LDM 07-08-2011 09:46 AM

RE: F4U arf with folding wings

Thats more like bro, you have to laught at the guy!! Even better and I know its been menthioned is the list price of the models lol . Most start at $800 hahaha .
There is a guy on the other popular website for rc that makes videos and wears a hat , he cracks everyone up as he is clearly taking shots as he does his own reviews of planes ect , very cool guy from Austraila .
we keep begging him to do more videos lol !!!
All of these secondary distributors have some wierd quirks , the most reliable who sincerly cares and is 100% honest is Philli from wwwpwrc.com.
I met the guy in HongKong , bought my FMS corsair , had a warped tail that I discovered when I got home , he shipped me a new one at his own cost and FMS did not reinburse him for the parts cost and it was a factory defect.
The guys is 100% reliable , does not offer the bogus presale cr.... ect . If you buy from him , he is in stock and get you a tracking number faster then your card is charged !!!
There is a ton of pro forums on his servace on the other forum under eletric warbirds.
