Hey Ron - I'm currently trying to install my rimfire 50cc into the plane. However I'm having trouble getting the motor to clear the dummy radial. Is it ok to push the prop backplate up with some kind of shim? Well I may be the wrong guy to ask :D I wanted to get my dummy engine to clear... so to do that I use a collet on the already long hacker motor shaft. This caused a viberation and broke my motor mount in flight. What is did now was mod the dummy engine and push my motor out more. This will stop the viberation and help CG. So what ever you do don't push it out to far and cause a viberation. It still looks ok and will be functional |

I was wondering if that was the cause! I've heard those mounts aren't very good. But that explains it on the first flight.
I don't need to extend the shaft at all....so that's good. Just need to push the prop backplate up about 5/8 inch or so. Hopefully I can find a spacer at OSH or home depot. |

Finally got some really good flights with this bird.... had a perfect day with 5 flights.
This thing flies so nice!! wow... so easy to land I can't believe it It's like a trainer I'm very happy with her now that I have it all sorted out,,, It's very fast at full power with the Hacker A60-16L on 12s with a 20X15 prop I'm getting a 5:30 flight time with a couple go arounds left in the pack. I fly most of the flight a couple clicks above half power looks nice and scale... couple burner passes, loops and verticals then land Love it!! |

Sorry no video... my flying buds went to a meet. So I didn't bother bringing out my camera. I'll try and get some soon. This is such a sweet heart of a plane to fly I really can't believe it..... it's like a piper cub to land, it's a no brainer and I havn't flown in a month so I was rusty. |

I ended up moving the motor forward and getting rid of the collet and running the stock hacker way.... all is good now |

Finally flew mine! Ron isn't joking... this is one nice flying bird. I flew it with a rimfire 50cc on 12s5300. Prop was a 20x12. I'll be increasing capacity to at least 6600mah. But all the vendors I like seem to be out!
With the rimfire and 5300 batteries I didn't need any nose weight. It balanced right at the rearward cg recommendation in the manual. The motor is without question overkill as I didn't even get over 1/2 throttle but it should provide lots of spirited flying. |

Hey Ron do you have any photos of how you set up your Hacker and the dummy mod needed to push motor futher out instead of using the collet? I'm putting the A50 16L in my TF .60 and since I want a giant EP I've been following the H9 P47 threads. It's a hard choice between the TF and the H9, and even the the H9 is slightly smaller I've pretty much made up my mind that H9 will be my choice when the time comes.

If going with electric giant scale P-47 to me the Hanger 9 wins hands down
It's so much lighter and has that huge hatch on top to get packs in and out The hidden hinges on the flaps are also much cooler, also the top flight has always had a funky canopy shape with that said I had the 60 sized TF P-47 setup on e- power and it was a really nice flyer... but this larger hanger 9 is the cats meow! can't wait to long many flights on it this spring. I'm already thinking about adding a lighting system and make the bombs drop. As much as I love Hacker motors since you have to use a front mount on them ..... in hindsite I would go with a rear mount motor in this one. Axi, Power 160, Scorpion... but this is my flyer so it is what it is. The mod was hack a big hole in the dummy engine :D I ran out and snapped a picture , it's hanging on my wall so kind of hard to see. But all setup it's really not that bad. |

I'm wondering, could have you shortened the shaft and still used the collet to reduce the vibration that broke the motor mount and not have had to mod the dummy ?

Welcome to RCU With the Hacker A60-16L and an ICE 160 up in the nose and my 12s 65c 5000 mah packs pushed to the firewall I had to add 12oz up front I've read that the stock setup needs a pound... So I would just check the weights and buy a motor and sound system that will require no weight up in the nose. I'm very happy with my power, it's to much really. But I'm going to setup a throttle curve with a high and low rate and can have a turbo switch that way :D hope that helps some |

Wow, that`s MASSIVE.......if I calculate the weight of your power configuration, it comes to about 106 ounces (ECalc), which is already 21 ounces above the weight of my config with the Scorpion.......so I would have to add incredible 35 ounces of weight. Benadini System with speaker(s) is about 11 ounces, still 24 "to go"... May be I'll go with the much heavier Axi 5345HD/14 (225), 20 x 11 Mejzlik Carbon on 12 s /5000 mAh....about same weight as yours, 4265 Watts of electric Power (thrust 543 ounces, more a 3D configuration than a warbird config...), but flight time may be a little too short (4.8 minutes average). Should then exactly add up to correct CG with Benadini Sound System, at least in theoryhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...ular_smile.gif....... Anyway, I love this great airplane kit, quality and degree of preparation is simply outstanding. I had the chance to get the kit frome someone in Germany who had wone it in a lottery of the German RC Association (DMFV), but plane was to big for him - phantastic deal for both of us! So this is my Configuration (attached)
I went finally with the new Axi 5345/16 HD 195 kv, 22x12 Mejzlik on 10s (2x 4500mAh 30c), ESC Castle Ice2 120 HV, optional change to 12s possible later with smaller prop.Matches nicely and motor alone is almost 1Kg in weight, round 2800 Watt with the Configuration, if not enough 12s will increase it. I just went through it and got her ready after winter
I also made a nice set of aluminum gear doors after the stocks failed on the first flight I plan to fly her this week and will bring the camera, if someone is at the field that can help me I'll try for a video keep you posted.... I have 5 or 6 flights on this plane and it's pure joy to fly, really easy to fly |

going back to the motor mount question, why not use spacers to get the motor so the can is front not back? Forgive me if this is a stupid question. I have converted H9 P-47 .60 and the P-51 1.50 V2 and did that with the p-47 and used the Hangar 9 motor mount for the P-51.
