I've often wondered about Hysol.

It ain't cheap, IIRC - but a lot of people seem to use it where an extra-stregth epoxy is required.

Like gluing the turbine blades together in a Change Sun CS 12 blader when they up the LiPo & RPM to ensure they don't explode at increased max revs :eek:

I have also read that it's a bit 'stiffer', and won't run everywhere as easily as "normal" epoxy does.

Must get some one day and see what all the fuss is about... ;)

I use Hysol a lot but Hysol has its certain application for fillits, voids etc but is not for everything. Thinner better penetrating epoxies should be used where tighter joints, clamping are needed etc.

Who retails Hysol?

I get mine from Grainger. But I will check. It is pricey but they have all lot of different types for different projects.

Aircraft Spruce sells T88 structural adhesive. It's the epoxy that folks that build real planes with. Been using it for years!

OMG! I should have said "full size". LOL

As an alternative to Hyso;l I have used West systems 610. Its about 20$ for a tube that fits into a std caulking gun and gives you about 4 times the amount of epoxy over Hysol. You can get it at any West Marine shop or Jamestown Distributers on the web. The only down side is since it is a larger tube you can't get it inside some places.

So I go out today with my TF GS FW190 and see that I have a leak in the tank. I pull it apart and see that the seam in split so I ask around and low and behold one of my buddies has the same size tank sitting in his truck bed... They look identical so I plumb the new tank in and all is well... First flight it runs lean and stalls after 2 minutes so I dead stick it in and everything is okay... I richen the High end a bit (1/8 turn) and fuel up, air up, and go fly with a buddy of mine, Tim Cardin, with his "Man o War" P51... formation flying, loops on the dead line, military rolls less than 40 feet apart.. It was great. My timer on my radio goes off (2 minute warning) and then the engine quits 50 feet up the run way dead line and 20 feet off the deck... drop the gear, fly over 500 feet of runway and land in the weeds... cart wheel tears the wing off the fuse and breaks one horizontal stab in half and wrecks another $35 Zoar 22X10...

I'm soo bummed... I'm going to be in repair mode for a few days.

If it were me, I would not mount my servos to the hatch! I mount my servos in rails in the wing, then use the hatch for access. Vibration is going to cause you to lose screws. I am sure this is how the Arf was engineered, but it is not the best method for an airplane this size. I am sure this will be too much work for some though.

You can get Hysol from either DA Australia, or intairco here in Oz.

Not cheap, but very very good. A word of warning, I use it when building my Jet's and over time the hysol shrinks a little more than when it was first set. I means that it can put the glass around the joint a little making the bulkhead outline and glue joint visible from the outside of the model.... just the tinyest of shrink, but on a glossy model, It sticks out.

A fellow club member was flying his FW 190 last night. He had all but given up on trying to land it without the ground loop. In fact he offed to sell it to me! Well, as a last try, he put in toe-out. It worked great. He had 2 very nice landings, with good control. Just though I would pass this along as I witnessed it last night. Anyone having problems may give this a try.

Maybe thats why the full scale FW had toe out :)
