Jimmy, I liked the sound of the engine. Is it the Roto 85 inline , two cylinders ? Or is it the boxer?

Well, I'm officially a part of this thread now....the Sierra retracts and tailwheel, etc., are on the way...got the last Saito 84cc Radial fm Chief, it's here tomorrow, and ordered 11 Savox servos....Have been a die hard HiTec fan, but unless you get the $180 93xx Brushless series, which are awesome, I'm just tired of noise and centering issues, and pricing....a brushless Savox is $75 to $85 cheaper, and more torque....I'll see if I like them, but decided to try them.
I'm going to use a Spektrum 12 ch Failsafe, an IBEC for only 2 batteries, maybe a Booma RC touchpad on/off switch, under the hatch, and basically looking for any advice as i go....I'll read through this so I don't ask questions already covered, but like the comments on the baffling....those looked great for the Saito. Any discussions on the mod to mount the Sierra's....seems like a fairly straightforward modification to the ribs to mount the mains. Also, anyone here use the Sierra tailwheel retract vice the Robart....I'm going to use the Sierra for Scale looks and quality. Also, I see the kit fuel tank is a close fit. Those of you that have the Saito did you use the fuel tank in the kit, or something else? Is the 16oz enough for a 10min flight, or what, using the Saito 84 Radial? Thanks much,

Bearbow I'm running a 32oz but a 24 would be plenty. I know plenty of guys running 16oz on DA 50 but with the big 84cc I would want at least the 24

n8622t: Thanks for the advice....as it turns out, I talked with Kelvin at Keleo, and he turned me on to Fred Culbertson (Condor60) and then Ray English who does the intake manifold and conrod bearings for oil flow etc. My motor came today and i turned it right around and sent it to Ray for his internal modifications, Which after seeing their 2-3 videos, either you do the mods, or you don't buy the Saito 84...it's that bad....I wouldn't buy it without having Ray fix it. And he'll fit/mount the Keleo exhaust on it and return it in 10 days....I'm stoked. Huge power increase, but the main thing is this video....talks about the different cylinder head temps and lack of proper lubrication. I think it's the same one you sent me....I would not buy this engine without doing this; you're just a ticking time bomb waiting for the connecting rod to seize on the crank.

I certainly thank everyone for getting me smart before my maiden....anyone know of 3 blade 23x10 or 23x12 props?

Anyone know where to get the correct size prop spinner, high quality, but with the white circular spin painted on? Also want to run a 3 Blade.

The 3 blade aluminum spinner is available from Tower for the TF GS FW190... there's videos on YouTube for how to on painting your spiral.. not hard at all... some tape, an exacto blade, and Rustoleum White matte primer.

OK.. it's not perfect but at 7000 RPM nobody will notice.. hehe

I think it took me 11 minutes to do this as soon as I saw your post... Given that I'm a shlep with no abilities, and the quality is pretty low, I'm guessing the normal modeler would spend 30 minutes, after checking references on what the spiral should look like, and have a perfect spinner!

No problem bearbow... You might also consider having Ray drill your prop hub for a multi bolt pattern so you won't have to crush the prop with a single nut. Not sure if you noticed that in the pic I posted

People are trying to sell us stuff all the time. That's okay.
You fell for it, and thats okay too.

Since the beginning of time there has been engine gurus telling us they have a fantastic fix to some engine.

The bronze bearing;
If you follow the manual, and fill some oil onto the crankcase, who are you to say that the bearing isnt good enough for this engine?

The somewhat erratic running;
If the engine is running good enough for us rc-modelleres, it actually is good enough. Stuff can allways be made better,
but 100% excellence will stop any progress.

well said Kwik..........It's the same thing we used to do with our 56 chevy's.........install headers, bigger carbs, four speeds on the floor.......but if you install a bigger cam, bigger dome top pistons, now your talking baby.........MORE HOREPOWER.........GO FASTER. Both make very good points.

Ok dip stick..... I have two saito radials identical .... One locked up 20 seconds after the initial start up, is it a time bomb? Maybe but you obviously don't know who Ray English is or you wouldn't be talking smack right now. When you have enough money to ever buy one of these radials I would strongly recommend you send it to him otherwise don't tell me about getting sucked in because you don't know me Kwik :)

Wow... Jimmy... he wasn't pointing a finger at you...you guys are both good guys and lots of modeling experience. Ray English is a legend. yes! He's been around engines a very, very long time and what he does with the Saito is amazing (engineering brilliance). but many, many people run that engine having never done anything except put gas in it and saw on the throttle.

Kwik is pretty good at this and just made a comment that folks think there's something fundamentally wrong with that Saito and bought wholesale into the video describing a mod to make it better. I've failed to read instructions before and learned a failure could have been prevented had I done some thing or other (kinda like oiling a bering, etc). I actually bought a EVO 77 and wrecked it running it out of the box and failing to check valve clearances (something in the manual). I've also run a DLE out of the box for 2 years and I've never touched the needles. You never know on these models.. Sometimes the stars align and it's all smiles and sunshine

Or shave 1mm from the case deck of an FA-450R3 , slap FA-180B cylinders on top W/FG-84 pistons for 12.2:1CR, do the Ray English mod, port the intake for 12mm alky carb & run glow fuel. A 5.12 cu. in. nitro methanol fire breather. Ought to be good for about 8HP.

Who knows, I might order the parts from Ray English this winther for a better gasoline distribution myself, we will see? I am sure he is an excellent engine man.

But saying that it is either doing the mods, or not buying the FG-84 is a bit over the top. Mine is running just fine, but I still need to run it perhaps
15 minutes on full throttle on the ground, just to check cooling.

Whats the charge for the mod on this engine?
