so i pulled my wulf out of the box and tossed it on the build table. What i like most about topflite is you can use the gear they send with the bird. I was however surprised it didnt have a non retractable tail gear with it. Im not doing any major mods to this bird just putting it together and flying it. I just want a new beater fly the wings off of. i have to hand it to them on this one you can tell they sat down and put some thought in to this. Hope to have it ready to CG and maiden soon.
What are you going with for power?

DA 50. I am a big fan of the 85, (i like standardization) but im going to do the right thing this time and use the correct size motor. I just happen to have had one in my ready for use broke-in inventory. Its surprising how fast stuff goes together when your not makeing abuch of mods.

I thought the 85 was the correct size. LOL!!

I used that 50 on the end. That came out of a great flying spitfire.

I am unhappy also that we didn't get a non-retract tail wheel as I have been useing them in the last TF Mustangs I have put together.
But, fortunately I have one left over from a deceased Mustang that I will try to use.
I just want a nice weekend flyer that I haven't spent my whole time on building and that make's for less stress on me at my age.

If I was to guess. I'd say they left out the tail retract as an attempt to keep the weight down. The FW 190 has a very short nose, and anything set aft really starts to add up quick.

I know if I were to do another, It would have a non retracting tail wheel to prevent some complication and weight.

You mean to keep the shipping weight down??
Mmmmm I wonder why then, they have two lead/steel weights already bolted to the firewall?

Anyways I agree with you about the short nose and by not useing a Robart tailwheel on the P-51 will make a difference on where to put the receiver battery in them.

Not the shipping weight...

They are trying to keep you from having to add a couple more lead blocks to the ones you have.

I added a ton, then added some more after the test flights. Flies great now.

How much 2lbs....8?

I did not add any weight, build a tray on top of the motor for the ignition battery, moved the gas tank over the cg, receiver batts as close to the firewall as possible,
and Pneumatic tail wheel retract , using a DA-50 for power, it flies great......

by the time you add all that extra weight that little 50cc is going to overstroke itself[:o]

a lesson in time...when all things are considered a remedy can be resolved:)

I'm going to go with a good old Zenoah g-45 for power as all out speed is not what I am looking for and if needed a G- 62 will then drop right in.

Looking good my friend. After the holidays, i'll be ready for paint. I completed the panel lines today and will hit it with another full final coat Monday if possible. I have everything in it other then a few servos in the fuse and I'm waiting on my receiver from Horizon and Lipo batteries from Hobbyking. I moved everything to include the air system under the gun hood. The only things that will be in the fuse are the rudder, tail wheel and elevator servos. I do this on all my FW190's. I wonder how much help adding the sierra retracts will have on the nose weight issue.

Jimmie, I've got it in the shop and the box is huge and still unopened. I might still go with big out runner for power. It for now the G-45 drops right in and more than likely will not need more nose weight. I'll decide once I get to read the AMA magazine review and get my hands on it.
