Hey you guys feel free to post any comments or thoughts this is definitely a worthy topic for conversation for sure

RE: Pratt & Whitney 1/5 scale radial engine for warbirds
If that is a R-2800 where is the second row of cylinders????;)
It does look really cool though & in a model I would not want the hassle of cooling a second row or the weight. |
RE: Pratt & Whitney 1/5 scale radial engine for warbirds
I did nt see any specs on the motor. What size, what power, what is the diameter, whats it weigh and above all else whats it cost?:D

Yeah! Try going into the parts section and scroll down about halfway on the left and you'll see the collector ring for it looks just like a AT6 exhaust nice-looking piece. It's going to have a multi spark electronic ignition and Antonio at authentic scale said the Ignition has 2 sparks per combustion. Two spark plugs Per cylinder also So that's really cool and then to top it off they have the 3,4 and five blade Variable pitch propeller (Ground adjustable) looking forward to hearing it run

Watching their site with interest..would like the radial and exhaust for my Byron Corsair.

I just left the website And he has a video of the nine cylinder running. it looks like they are in the break-in process sounds really good and healthy

RE: Pratt & Whitney 1/5 scale radial engine for warbirds
awhile back I think it was moki had a 2 row in develepment I saw on youtube they never did put in on the market.this new engine looks great and being an 11" will fit in alot of 1/5 scale warbirds witch has 12" round cowls, got my vote +.

1/5th B-17 or B-25, or even a B-24, B-29 would just be the nutz! Four of those running in unison flying low overhead, I think I just had an O.

RE: Pratt & Whitney 1/5 scale radial engine for warbirds
Yes I totally agree
Did you go into the parts section yet of the nine cylinder? It shows the Finished three and four blade prop hubs they look exactly scale |
RE: Pratt & Whitney 1/5 scale radial engine for warbirds
they will be comming out with the 1/4 scale twin row,900 I hope will fit in my new 1/4 scale AD-1 skyraider witch is almost done.

RE: Pratt & Whitney 1/5 scale radial engine for warbirds
A quarter scale engines are at least a year out. 1/6th scale engines will be first.

Well it appears that we have a updated website here. He has posted pictures of the engine finally put together with the prop. What an absolutely sexy piece of machinery. I have got to get one of these in my plane

RE: Pratt & Whitney 1/5 scale radial engine for warbirds
i saw them a couple of months ago too, but now looks like they have increased the price substantially! I am sure it was sub $4000 before, now it is $5000!

RE: Pratt & Whitney 1/5 scale radial engine for warbirds
Anyone seen one of these run? Could not find video on their web site.

RE: Pratt & Whitney 1/5 scale radial engine for warbirds
The video is on their homepage. It's about a 20 second clip

RE: Pratt & Whitney 1/5 scale radial engine for warbirds
Boy oh boy I don't know what happened. But it used to be $3500. I'm going to have to give Antonio a call and find out what happened. Because now it's priced that nobody can afford it

RE: Pratt & Whitney 1/5 scale radial engine for warbirds
Beautiful engine but at the size or 11 inches in diamater it is going to be hard to find a model it fits into. You will need at least a 12 - 12.5" cowl to make it work. Remember right thrust guys? This pushes the entire engine off to the left side of the fuselage to ensure the prop shaft exits in the center of the cowling.
The real aircraft positioned the verticals with 3 - 5 degrees of right thrust and not the engines. I am currently building a Comp ARF P-47 for a friend and tried to fit the Evo 7 cylinder 260 inside teh cowling and it won't fit if you want any type of right thrust. When you increase the number of cylinders around the cracnkcase the diameter goes up. This is one of the main reasons Moki went with a 5 cylinder radial when they developed the engine. It is smaller in diameter. I will say the engine is a true work of art, even at the current price! |
RE: Pratt & Whitney 1/5 scale radial engine for warbirds
I guess we will just have to start building in the proper offset into the stab!
The later Bf109s used a semi symmetrical airfoil to accomplish the same thing. |
RE: Pratt & Whitney 1/5 scale radial engine for warbirds
A Splined crank shaft will be a problem. Not to the engine but to "sudden stopage". Can you imagine what's going to happen when THAT happens? Not sure its a good idea to have it for our models.
