Easy Tiger Models Giant Warbirds Pros/Cons

Anybody building or flying the EasyTiger Models Warbirds? I'm interested in the Corsair. What about their retracts? Any good.
Thanks,
Fred

If planning on entering scale masters NO , but if you want that scale (close )profile go for it .I have the 100"SBD and it flys well . the landing gear needs some work (lot of play in the scissors ). For the price you can't beat it. I also would inspect all glue joints . You'll be in the air in a day or so .

Don't waste your money on the retracts. They are soft metal and get really sloppy after only a few flights.

Fred I have seen these at the WRAM show the last few years and I would stay away. Quality is not very good and there is a lot of bad press about dealing the owner.

I'm thinking of building this plane and choose almost this exact color scheme. Did you strip and glass the wings or repaint over the factory paint? What is your opinion of the factory retract system? How happy are you with the overall quality of the kit? What is the flying weight? What CG did worked. Any answers you could provide would be very much appreciated.

the CG worked out to 5.5 inches infront of the leading edge . I'm using a DA85 for a power plant and have added about 8 pounds of lead so the weight about 30 pounds . Over all its a great flyer, although the gear isnt the best ,too much wobble in scissor, ended up pinning the strut and cured most of the problem, just reprimered the plane and used auto rattle cans and major decals. I also changed from the pull pull set-up for the tail wheel and rudder( I dont like pull pull)

I purchased a used 96" p-51b from a fellow RCU member. The planes are "SS" (Squint scale) but fly well enough (DA85 in mine). Like unclejoe- I've completely repainted mine and added as many lil' details (cosmetically) to detract from the obvious other "scale" associated issues. that helps tremendously. The weak point is the stock retracts, as they were entry level retracts at best and the stock axel was suitable for a .60 size plane- However- they're the least expensive way to make a plane as big as these operational. the tail wheel (as on most arf's is junk) - just remember- you get what you pay for and it's always the weakest link that causes the rest to be a failure-
For me Everyone knows what the plane is and it was easy to dress up the homely girl into a prom queen- So the plane is a win. I replaced my struts with "Century Jet models" gearand it makes all the difference in the world.

Mac:
Thanks for the information, did you really mean the CG should be 5.5 inches in front of the leading edge of the wing or is it behind the leading edge of the wing?
I'd still appreciate your thoughts on the overall quality of the kit and any things you found that needed to be fixed or upgraded to make this a first class plane. I personally hate having to shrink up covering every time the plane has been out in the sun, have you had any problems with the covering getting loose after being in the sun or sitting for a while? I'm going to Toledo next week and if the kit looks good I may just bring one home with me.

Thanks again for your help

Roger

I also bought the P 51 B from Easy tiger .I have read a few posts about bad experiences with Curtis but I got great service and quick shipping. I am duplicating the markings of the P51 that Capt. John England flew. One thing that bothers me about these giant scale arfs are the over exaggerated panel lines and rivet detail. I stripped the paint and filled the panel lines and rivets with body glaze. The glaze shrinks a small amount and leaves a much smaller detail. The full scale plane was natural aluminum on the bottom so I applied flitemetal and repainted the top. I didn't feel the retracts were up to the task so I rebuilt the gear mounts and installed Sierra gear.

ozzie,

Yours looks great !
What silver paint did you use to get that highly polished look ?

I did mine up as "BERLIN EXPRESS"
I need a photo of the whole thing completed though.
Maybe this weekend if it's nice out- I'll get a good shot of it.

That's 5.5 behind the leading edge . Approx. where the canopy frame is .(pilots sliding canopy )
