Very well. I got the test flights late last month and have started on the redesign of the fuselage for the AD5 variant. The A1H goes on the self until Howards AD5 is designed and the fuselage is built.

Here is a video link of the first flight. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdjCuULdy5w&feature=youtu.be Here is a 3D CAD screen shot of the AD5 Fuselage. I'm trying to get it ready to go to the laser cutter by the end of next week. Howard and I hope to have my A1H and his AD5 Fat Face completed and flying by early spring....of next year:-)

WARBIRDRCER 08-21-2014 07:49 AM

Very nice. Looks like it flys very well too. Looking forward to seeing it and Howards AD5 fly together.

gsmith6879 08-21-2014 07:54 AM

Yea, I think it flies better than the 100". It weighed 49 pounds for the test flights. Scale details and paint will add some weight but I actually think that will help the flight envelope.

Tom,

Can't have too many Skyraiders. Nice looking 572.

WARBIRDRCER 10-01-2014 05:45 PM

To all of the persons who are part of this Brotherhood, sorry for my absence. I have been busy with my plane projects trying to make since of them all. I will try harder to stay in touch more often, and with winter coming that may make it easier.

A quick up date on the 120" AD5 redesign.

I finished the CAD work about a month ago and emailed the files to Pat at LasercutUSA. Got the parts back within a week and one of our members and fellow Warbird pilot, Howard Davidson started on his wing. I'm building the fuselage to verify the design would work. I have run into some design issues (expected) but mostly the fuselage is going well. Howard has the right wing roughed out and is working on the left wing panel.

Our plan is to have his AD5 and my A1H ready for the flying season this spring.

Probably time to update the progress on Howard's AD5 and my A1H Skyraiders. Howard has his wing finished and I have his AD5 canopy operating. He is working on final details and that huge cockpit. I'm finishing the last of the molds for the A1H. Here is a video of Howard's operating canopy.

Not a full composite but you might be interested in the project. Cad Design detailed plans, laser cut short kit parts, and most FG parts needed to complete. Unless there is a major issue, my A1H and Howard's AD5 will be at Owatonna this August.

Great looking jet. The 120" Skyraider design uses the standard Robart F6F Hellcat gear.

Great looking bird Howard. Looking forward to seeing those giant Skyraiders fly this season.

Bob Paris 02-13-2015 07:56 PM

Aloha Gentlemen,
I just ordered from Tomas an ESM Skyraider kit. Please...may I join this fraternity.

I'm a retired Army Viet Nam area helicopter gun pilot. Flew "B & C" model Huey guns ships in South East Asia. Our Joker fire teams flew along side both the Air Force and Navy Skyraiders. My first tour of duty was in 1966~1967...at 19 years of age. My second tour was with the same company, the 48th. Assault Helicopter Company...and with the 48ths Joker fire teams. The Skyraiders would come in and do their thing...and we would swoop into the area low level and help clean up the area.

I am going to power the ESM Skyrader with a PTE 36R (it was in my ESM F6F) and Sierra landing gear. Airtonics ten G and HD1501 servo's. I will install an electric tail wheel from Century Jet. I pray I will able to get this airframe under 18#'s and fly as nice as my ESM Hellcat did.

Soft Landings Always,
Bobby of Maui

Bobby show us some pics when you can

Bob Paris 02-14-2015 09:21 AM

Hay Six Guns,
I will be most happy to put pictures up of my ESM Skyraider assembly. I sent Tomas at VQ Warbirds my request for the model and awaiting his notification of shipment. I built a Global kit of the Skyraider ten years ago and I managed to find a second kit two years ago. I've not started the second Global kit, or my Heritage kit, because I am moving over to gas powered models. The ESM Skyraider kit is larger and I bought it because I really like the power of my PTE 36R. That is one very strong 35cc class engine. I turn a Master Airscrew Scimitar wood prop at 7,800 rpm's and it hauled a 20 lb. model with authority. The only model in this 35cc gas engine size is the ESM Skyraider and why I chose that model to fly next.
Soft Landings Always,
Bobby of Maui

SIX GUNS 02-14-2015 10:33 AM

Bobby, that's good info you will have to let us know how this kit goes to gether
