New 81" P-47 ARF coming from Hangar 9

1 Attachment(s)
Just saw the new Hangar-9 81" P-47 at: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Shop/ByC...ProdID=HAN2700
Only 1 pic and cant tell a lot from it, but there is a downloadable manual at: http://www.horizonhobby.com/ProdInfo...P47_Manual.pdf
Looks real nice with plug in wings, & stab. Top of fuse is removable for access to electronics, etc. Has mechanical retracts on the mains with a separate servo for each retract. The retract servos are actually mounted to each retract. It also has oleos on the mains. The wheels appear a bit small, but looks as if there is room to retrofit some larger wheel and well. Tail wheel is not retractable, but is close to scale location and looks like maybe a retract could be engineered.
Set-up for 2.2 glow or G-26 gas.
So far, I like what I see.[sm=thumbup.gif]

I just read through the manual. That is a gorgeous bird. They have a winner there.

Doh, you're right.

The P-47 does look nice. I like the extras it seems to have. Wonder how it will fly.

I have a friend who has a warbird of this size with mechanical restracts and has had problems with them bending all the time. Too bad they don't offer an upgrade option. Does look nice and they appeared to keep the weight down to help wing loading.

If the pics in the manual are any indication, the retracts look pretty stout. The frames look a lot like Spring Air 400 series 1/5 scale retracts, so they may be a good air substitute if needed.
I fly Airtronics Stylus radios, and Airtronics makes a proportional retract servo that can be slowed down through the radio. Should work good with these retracts.
I have also seen some robot company that makes a kit to turn a standard proportional servo into a 180 degree throw. That would be an option too. Saw a link not too long ago here on RCU, but don't remember where. I'll post it if I see it again.

Cant really tell from the pics if its worth it or not but the price lends comparison to KMP , Yellow and others in that Range . KMP had air retracts at a better price .

From what little the picture shows, it looks good. Razorback and camo. I would prefer air retracts or a lower price, but this is definately on the radar screen. I wonder it top-flite will follow suit.

Top Flite was right after them on the big P-51 and I would assume it would be the same for this plane. If they arent, they are going to miss out on some serious cash. Honestly, looking at the instruction manual, the retracts look pretty beefy. After loading the area with epoxy and securing the retracts with some more backing blocks in the wing they look like they should work.

If you can build a kit that big, cover it, and supply what look to be pretty decent retracts for less than 600 bucks....... go for it. I work for a living and have a young baby at home. I couldnt build that plane in a million years of evenings.

Hangar 9 can have my money.

It does look like a good looking P47. It would be a nice however to not have retracts with the kit for a reduced price. I had to replace my retracts on the World Model Zero cuz it looks like a scared chicken on take-offs. The robart 640 85 degree are perfect fit on the rails and just a bit of Dremel on the strut openning. I like Top Flite's approach of ARC version as well.

I'm glad they made it different looking than the 60 size P47. I'm sure overall it will be a quality product. Other than the retracts, the P51 1.50 hit the mark. After it is released, I'm anxious to hear the jury weigh in on these retracts.

Come on topflight, where's the giant bubbletop ?!?!?!?!

Finally! A big, beautiful ARF P-47, and a razorback to boot. I was just beginning to clear my workbench for the TF GS P-47. I'll slide it back in the closet till I retire and build it then. Judging from the manual, appears to be a well engineered model. I like the plug in wing/stab and the airfoiled tail surfaces. Wish it wasn't so glossy, but not a big deal. I think they have another winner!

Well there goes the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ from Top-Flite to H9.... TF better "HUrry up " or they are gonna miss out on a TSUNAMI of CA$H flow..... Can't believe they are letting H9 out do them ...
I have yet to buy a H9 ARF but this one is a WINNER in my Book... I already am setting aside the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
TF ARE YOU THERE????????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????

RE: New 81" P-47 ARF coming from Hangar 9

I have given it some thought and honestly cant figure out why you could manufacture (via cheap asian sweat shops) a world class giant P-51 and not immediately go into producing another large scale plane using all the same circumstances but with other frame details and covering. I just dont get it. If you can build one, you could simply exchange kits and covering the next week and build another.

Top Flight should have a giant scale Mustang, P 47, and Corsair by now. I think they have some executive decide to milk the Mustang for a while, then put out an ARC version and milk that for a while then think about manufacturing another ARF.

Hangar 9 pumps out a new model every few months and for that they should be rewarded with business. That P-47 needs 20 minutes of scotch bright (to kill the shiny finish) and "eat s&!t Adolf" written on one of the bombs, and its ready to go.

Well mine will be getting striped down and fiberglassed then painted. The scheme I have decided on is this. I was going to do a Tuskegee airmen scheme but was having a hard time finding good pictures for detail.
