Xoar WWII wood 17x8x3 works perfect. idles great, linear transitions, about 8K in the air.

birddogs2 03-17-2016 10:17 AM

Thanks, I'll probably give one a try on mine.

Everytime I fly this plane I'm reminded how much I love it!

Nice. Maybe photos like that will get me really remotivated...

I left you guys (well, I think somebody might have been watching ;) ) hanging in January of last year because my built came to a stop - Mr. Cubbison at Keleo decided he didn't want to honor his contract after all, so when he wouldn't finish the exhaust I bought from his original customer, I got frustrated and put this project aside for a while. This spring, I came back to it, and have completed quite a bit that I haven't recounted here yet, as I haven't had time to post. I promise I'll get to it. In the meantime, I've also been teaching myself to weld thin aluminum, so I can complete the exhaust myself (I'm done for good with Keleo).

So more to come...

marksp 07-02-2016 07:53 AM

Yeah...I have dreams that someday one of those scale exhaust will turn up, and I'll recover, and... Until then, I'll keep flying and smiling!

Cheers

bufordbob 07-02-2016 09:02 AM

Mark,
I have a good sized stable full of planes but periodically I fly the P6-E,when I do I don't feel the need for speed or 3D,just cruising by and smiling when she passes down the field, she is a wonderful bird.

What a gorgeous photo! I may just have break protocol and start building this plane now! Cheers: Rich

Rick any progress? i am curious to see yours fly with the 20 and the keleo..
i ended up picking up,a nearly completed unflown p6e from a deceased club members family minus the engine. I didnt look that close but when i got it home lo and behold it has a keleo for most likely a saito 100-120 4 stroke on it.. i have nib g23, g26, and 3 or 4 rcs140s laying around so i am going to use one of them.. i think the 140. would be the easiest to adapt to the keleo

nomorelogin 01-07-2018 06:10 AM

Hi guys!
How do you think, will the O.S. Max 95AX be good for this Hawk?

Wild Doogie 01-07-2018 10:31 AM

No Sir...not got the larger version......

nomorelogin 01-07-2018 11:09 AM

why not?
GP has recommendations:
Requires: radio with a minimum of 4 channels and 5 servos & a 2-stroke .60-.91 or 4-stroke .91-1.20 glow or 30 cc gasoline engine.

so my query was mostly about any experience of equipping Hawk with that engine. positive or negative, any tips maybe...

Nomorelogin,
BTW nice user name "no more log in" very original, back to your question you should be okay with the O.S. Max 95AX and stock fuel tank 6 to 8 min flight time on a 16oz tank.Fuel burn is based on a 16oz tank I did use the stock tank which is bigger, also I have a DLE-35RA on mine. Proteus_x3

nomorelogin 01-07-2018 01:59 PM

Thank you, Proteus_x3

I think such amount of flight time would be good for me. For now I'm using Saito .91 engine on Piper J-3 (2000 mm wingspan) and flight time with 320 ml tank is 5 to 6 minutes. And these are very long 5 minutes for me as a beginner pilot :)

P. S. When I was trying to register at rcuniverse, I was subsequently rejected with 3 or 5 logins. So, I chose most obvious - "nomorelogin" and it passed :)

Curtis Hawk P-6E

Fellow RCer, did you put this Hawk together yet? I have been looking for one and Great Planes no longer has this plane in production. I would be willing to buy it from you if you were interested and it could still be boxed and shipped. You can be emailed directly at "[email protected]". I would appreciate a response. Thanks! John

<ack> Sorry 2walla, I haven't been posting here much lately, and missed this response.

I have made no progress on this since my last post, even though I said I was going to get back to it. My biggest impediment is to become proficient at soldering aluminum pipe, which turns out to be harder to do than I thought it would. I won't make any promises about restart or completion, because I've finally learned the lesson that I hardly ever keep such promises. But the unfinished wing stares me in the face every time I approach the workbench, so someday soon it will bother me enough to do something about it.

Many here claim the title of world's slowest builder, but I live it... :p

Hello guys!

Just want to share my electric setup for the Hawk:

Dualsky ECO 5322C-V2 430kV motor
Hobbywing FunFly V5 120A ESC
Some 6S 5-6Ah li-po pack (not decided yet)
APC Prop of 18x10 or 19x10 dimensions

And here is my 3d-printed motor mount. It's printed from PETG, looks great and I hope, will work fine:
(here should be photo, but I "can't post URL's" until I have 10 posts. yikes!)

Hello nomorelogin

I have my P6E for approximately 6+ years.started with a small motor 80 size with 2 5s batteries to extend flight times, the changed to a power160 motor with a 10 s setup using a 20X10 Xoar prop. Just finished a different setup with the same motor power160 but using 1 6s battery 5000 mac and turning a 24x12E APC prop. The plane is not a 3D plane and I like to fly it with scale speed and maneuvers .
Love to hear your report on it when you fly,I found this plane to be a very relaxing graceful flier.you can see my report on it several years back. I fyou want can send you the page number it is on.

nomorelogin,
Found the maiden flight of my P6E only 3 1/2 minutes and not great views but she flew very well with only a little bit of trim.

Thank you bufordbob for sharing your setup and flight video! Nice maiden flight. I hope to share mine when it happens :)
