Me 109G-6 Dream Machine

Hello!
My name is George Conrad Manea ( Jimmy ). I'm living in Romania. Since I was a child my passion was to build cars, ships and of course planes. First 1:72 ,1:24 plastic models; then wood was the construcion material, combined with all kind of materials, as statics. In the seventees as warbird, Messerschmitt 109G became my dream plane. Started to collect docs. linked to this plane. Romanian Royal Air in WW II, used 109G2,G4,G6 ;some planes were mounted in Romania at I.A.R. It's a shame that, after years no Me109 remains for posterity, into a romanian museum, or private collection... From romanian sources find some plans ( find them verry exact ) b/w photos and some articles in romanian MODELISM and newer AEROMAGAZIN edited by people with a great passion for wings. After years ,when the NET became the source for almost everything on this world ( modelling of course ),could expand my searches about Messer. At this moment have a collection of about 400 photos, plans from five sources ( trying to compare them to find the real shape and details ). My first "flying" G6 was made in 80's as "fly by wire" ( cable ). 1,1m span and an 5ccm engine. Since 2000 started to fly R/C planes, build some trainers, a SU26 acro, and since 2002 became member of Romanian Modeling Federation, and participating for two years ,with P-39 Airacobra ,at F4C contest. In 2003 started my 109 project, finalized in 2005 autumn, and participate at F4C (R/C scale) nationals, getting a good 3rd place. Seeing on this site, photos and articles, on this forum (exceptional!) i decided to present my scratchbuild Messerschmitt, now, after almost two years of work, and most important, a test flight and two official flights. Markings are Heinrich Bartels' "RED 13"G-6 flown 1943/Kalamaki Greece. Some about the model: classical construction, balsa+ply ,NO lasercut , NO cnc, NO kit or industrial-made components...all is made by me,from construction plans, to paiting. 1700mm(67") span,4300grams(9.5lb),Magnum 2stroke 1.08 engine, with me-made muffler.Had some emotions at first flight, beacose engine had not enough breaking-in( only 3/4 our of working ). EXCUSE! first of all, my not so good english, some of photos have a poor quality, some of them were made with a mobile phone, some with a classical camera, then transformed into jpg's...only a fiew made with a digi camera... also have a movie about the first flight. Your's G.C.Manea /JIMMY/ |

One word. GORGEOUS!!
She looks almost too good to fly, but then what's the point of building them if you don't fly them. Great job! |
RE: Me 109G-6 Dream Machine
You are an absolutely gifted builder who excels at the fit and finish of your models! You have constructed one of my favorite warbirds with remarkable skill! I must say that your English is better than many of the "native" English speakers on these forums!

Jimmy,
Your research and model building skills have resulted in a BEUATIFUL model. I am truly in awe of the detailed weathering, wear and tear. She looks as though she has successfully completed many operational missions! Very well done!! |

Outstanding piece of work!!! Very impressive. I don't think I've seen a better built scale 109 than yours.

Most amazing, what type of finish did you put on it.

Jimmy,
Beautiful job on that plane! Frank, What plane is that? Possibly a Meister? What size and engine? -Ed |
RE: Me 109G-6 Dream Machine
You should be proud - that's a work of art! Will inspire me to get going on mine. Excellent weathering too.

Jimmy,
There is NO DOUBT that if you live in the USA, you will be HIGHLY SOUGHT after to be a designer for one of the major companies here!!! Your workmanship is is beyond 99.7% of our fellow members here. Have you given a thought of defecting to the USA? DP |
RE: Me 109G-6 Dream Machine
Jimmy, Beautiful work! The G6 is my favorite too. I'm sure that with the attention to detail you put into this model, that she will fly just as good as she looks!
Bravo. Rob / katchmarek |
