Encouraging to hear that your Hellcats are still flying, I'm picking one up nib from the lhs next week and plan to put a dle20 in it with a set of cj air retracts that I have knocking around. They only recently found it tucked away in the warehouse :)
|
I'm the one that used cut-down buttertubs for the wheel well inserts for use with larger tires. As far as wheel wells are concerned, the ones for the same series P-40 are the same. You might try to find those as a sub.
Amazing that some N.I.B. kits are still available. |
Sometimes you get lucky :) They also found a nib H9 B25 for which I am trying to scrape up some cash to snag as well.

How much do they want for the B-25??
|
I'll probably be able to get it for about $500 if I ask nicely. Always meant to buy one and then they were discontinued so I'm happy that an oportunity has popped around. If I'd known better I would have stocked up on H9 arfs back in the day. Although rare, sometimes you do get second chances :)
|
Looking for H9 Hellcat parts: Need wheel well inserts and any other spares.
|
Same wheel well inserts are used for the P-40 from the same series. Try ebay. If that doesn't work, oleo tubs, trimmed accordingly are what I used when I installed larger wheels.
|
Guys I have wanted this plane since it came out and I have an opportunity to get one RTF minus RX for $450 with an OS 120fs. Does not look like he even flew it. Would this still be a good buy? I am thinking it is but just want to get some input.
|
The kit sold for about $260 back in the day. I don't know what the engine and servos are worth but do the math and that will determine if it is a good deal or not. I've still got mine and it is a good flyer.
|
........................ok
|
I did that and always do. I have already done the math prior to my post, I just wanted to get an extra outside of my brain feedback based on......but thanks for your reply. It will look good with my hangar 9 p-47 150 and hangar 9 p-51 150.
I know "Good Deal" is subjective to a good deal of things and I probably should not even asked :) |
I picked a used one up from a member here,.. Haven't flown it yet, very nice & that's a good deal i would think
|
Ok thanks, I told my wife I was getting it and like most wives on here she said, you do not need it :). I told the guy I will come look at it Friday. It is an hour away.
|
The word "need" should seldom be used in this hobby. "Must have" is better, and "want" is the most accurate.
Enjoy the plane, in any case! |
Well picked up the Hellcat and actually had an Magnum XL FS 120 instead of the OS I thought. Started up and runs good. Has a 13x8 3 blade prop on it and tachs around 8500 which I think is pretty good. Had to add some minor glue on some wood that started to come apart. I like the plane other than the dang landing gear which I have already read about the upgrades that can be made. I will try a day with flying on the factory gear.
|
Another Hellcat gear experience: I fly off a petromat runway. My Hellcat has the original gear except I change to ballcups on the end of the links, rather than the original circle things (whatever they are called). The wheels are slightly toed out to keep the landing forces pulling on the ball links rather pushing. I seem to have better luck that way. Over 500 flights on the Hellcat and haven't had a gear problem in years (literally).
Good luck with your Hellcat. I have really enjoyed mine. Brian |

Well got the new old hellcat and took it out to the flying field along with my pulse xt40. Did a range check and it failed. Think it is a bad battery. Did not get to fly hopefully I will
be able to take it up for the first time this weekend. Also the guy the guy I purchased from has a 13x8 3 blade on a magnum fs 120. Has anyone ran a three blade on a 120 size or 100 size with this plane. I have only ran a 2 blade 16x6 on an os fs120. I did some research and I think it should work fine. Just want to get some other input prior to going out and buying a prop I am used to using. Here are a few pictures of it. |
First Flight for me with the Hellcat
|
nice plane, nice video, looks like you lifed off on the top of the fence
not to take a way from Hanger 9,, if any one wants a new Hellcat VQ has reported they will be have a 60" span Hellcat in the US around summer BTW, did any one see the UFO at :19 in the video Jim |
Thanks, It flies good with a 13x8 3 blade. Yeah it does look like it was on top of the fence :) My wife is about 5'6'' and I told here she should have walked up more to the fence :).
|
Guys one last thing. Has anyone had any issues with the belly pan coming off? The belly pan looks to have some soft white glue and seems to be from factory. What would this type of glue be? Kinds feels like caulking. I tried searching this forum but seems no one has post an issue about this.

Got about 4 flights on it yesterday. Still working on the idle on this older Magnum 120 engine. I am probably going to need to change the o-ring in the carb. Other than that and have to land kinda hot to keep the engine from dying this plane flies and lands great. Here are a few picture of it in the air.

rowdog_14,,,
my Magnum 180 had Idling problems, both the High and Low Needle Threads are very loose,, see my link, I'm sure your 120 uses the same Needle as the Magnum 160,,, if so the OS Main Needle assembly will fit,, as for your Magnum's Low Needle, maybe buy the OS Low Needle (it can't cost too much) and see if it fits in your Magnum, http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/glow...on-advice.html good luck !! Jim |
Thanks
