Hi Guys.
My local Hobby Shop has one of these in stock that he says he has had for awhile. He can get me out the door tax and all for $550. This sounds like an amazing deal but my question is whether there have been more versions of this kit. Am I about to buy and older version with problems or have they all been the same?
Thanks!
Dom

Hi Dom,

Not aware of any changes. I purchased the ARC version and it is a stunning plane to fly. They are well built, manoeuvrable and flies straight and true.

Cheers

Jeremy

Thanks for the reply.

I picked her up today along with all the needed accessories. The only problem is that the covering is badly wrinkled. I have spent nearly 3 hours on one wing panel and still cant get the wrinkles out. I think the problem is that the structure is fully sheeted. I am feeling the need to strip it and either glass and paint it or cover it with a fabric type covering that will breathe a bit over the sheeted structure. This sucks!

Mines Glassed - I added on the Razor back F/G kit from Terry at Wylie Warbirds. (trying to upload a pic but RCU is being RCU!)

Can you iron out or use a heat gun on the covering?

When i created the prototype for the razorback conversion i pulled all the cover off because the arc wasnt out yet. If you do dont try to remove the hinges it will destroy the wing.

Maj. are you using a heat gun? If so try using a cloth to rub down the monokote right after its stopped ballooning. This helps adhere the covering to the wood better. I dont think the wing is "air tight" even though its fully sheeted. But if thats really a concern then add a few breather holes in the trailing edges.

I'll try the cloth Bob.
Thanks!

Well I decided to strip the covering and glass this baby! I already have the wing glassed and will start the fuse soon. I might as well go all out with panel lines and such.

But anyway I have a question.

I bough the Jtech Pitts muffler for this plane. It is model # JTC-DL50WP.

I also bought the new Corsair ARF and the recommended muffler for that is a Jtech Model # JTC-DA50WPTF.

The JTC-DA50WPTF specifically states that it is for the P-47 Giant (and Corsair). The two mufflers are different in that the can on the JTC-DL50WP is much larger in diameter and has shorter exhaust pipes than the JTC-DA50WPTF.

Will the JTC-DL50WP fit in the P-47 or do I need to exchange it for the JTC-DA50WPTF? I am guessing that the smaller diameter can of the JTC-DA50WPTF gives more clearance from the firewall.

Thanks!
Dom

Hi Dom,

I used the slimline Pitts Muffler supplied by DA Australia. I had to cut the bottom corner of the firewall off and reinforced it from inside the box with some 3mm ply laminated with carbon. I have had a look for a photo but I didn't take one when the cowl was off. I also cut my pipes so they are just inside the cowl, make a great muffled sound but still pushes the exhaust out.

As you are glassing I would recommend making a hatch on the top of the fuse. Talk to Terry Farmer as he can supply the bits. Mine was ARC so I turned it into a razorback.

Oh and I had to add a screw to the hatch as the magnets were not strong enough to hold it down in flight

Thanks for the info. I agree with the hatch...its a must.

Also as you will need to shove as much stuff as you can up in the nose move the fuel tank back a bit, up in the nose area where the tank went I managed to shove in 3 x A123 packs, Throttle and Choke servos and a robart retract valve with servo and I still need to add about 500grams of lead shot to the inside of the cowl in the lip at the very front.

Sorry i cant speak about the 50cc muffler.

Well after sorting out some glitch problems (opti Kill switch) and dealing with a few air retract bugs, I finally maidened her today and man was it sweet! Great flying plane, DLE 55 is still tight and probably ready to be leaned out a bit. The 21X10 prop wasn't exactly a screamer either. I think I'll pick up a 22X8 Prop or try a 23X10 I have ready to go. Also need to mix in a bit of down for flaps.VERY smooth flyer and slows down to ludicrous speed on landing.

Try a 22x10. I use that and it gives great speed and vertical

Did it make a safe landing??

So what motor is that?

CCFPILOT 09-05-2012 08:31 AM

RE: Top Flite Giant P47 arf IS coming

Sounded like two motors to me. One on the ground and the one in the plane, which didn't sound like a DLE55 to me.

sounded like twin Lazers

I believe it is a Saito 300 twin gas or glow....
Great sounding engine as good or better than a radial....
and It is gasoline!...
