This past weekend the exhaust pushrod on my #5 cylinder bent. Only the 3rd flight. I double check the valve gaps at 0.007" after each flight and lubricate the pushrod ends before each day's flight. I am using the CARF/SOLO 4 blade prop with a pitch set to just under 4000 rpm on the ground. Do you think we over rev'd it in the air. Should I reduce the ground rpm to 3800? Your overrev theory is sound. Using the same prop setup, 3200 RPM to 3500 RPM is what I use. I feel 3800 RPM is the absolute highest you should use and I recommend against it. I religiously follow my rule, "nose down, throttle down" in flight. Another bent/thrown pushrod cause: The exhaust valves can also stick in the guides after carbon builds up on them. They do not get the lubrication from the fuel/oil mix like the intake valves do. Every 10 flights I depress the exhaust valve rocker, remove the pushrod, fill the valve pocket with TriFlow lubricant, and work the valve up and down until the oil in the pocket disappears. I confirmed on a disassembled engine that the oil does make its way down the valve guide. I have not bent/thrown a pushrod in 250+ Moki 250 flights. Have fun! |

hi gentleman i've done a bit of searching and asking people from different clubs and such about the MOKI 400cc i have one in a 40% WACO which i bought used last year and have just got inspections completed
so im wondering she seems a bit sluggish and i've heard many variations on fuel mix and ratio i used on my first 3 flights klotz kl-200 32:1 witn non ethanol rec fuel running a oversized prop 40x22 looking for a update or hoping someone can point me in the right direction thanks for help BOB 616-291-27eight,five |
I used to struggle with valve sticking until I switched oil to Redline. That took care of that business. -Tom

Guys, I have an old 215cc MOKI that I've owned for years, and hope to get it in the air by next Spring. I'm starting to build a large glider tug and asking about the proper range of props. I've seen here that a 32X18 is used a lot as a two bladed size. I understand the idea of limiting ground RPMs to less than 4000. My question is, should I use something different than props used on WW II fighters (32X18) as I'm not needing or wanting as much speed as the scale fighters have? The tug will weigh about 45 pounds, and largest gliders will be about the same. Does anyone have experience using the 215 to power a tug?

Larry, on my Moki 215 equipped Super Flyin' King, I use a SEP 33x16 laminated prop. Excellent pulling power! -Tom

Larry, it is on youtube. Search Super flyin'King at Viehe field. Yes at that time it had a Moki 150. Much better engine the 215 is on that plane.

I can't keep the cylinder bolts tight on my 150. Is red Loctite the best solution?

Determining age of Moki Radial?
I'm going through the process of bench running my Moki before mounting it in my CY models LA-7. It seems to be running well without the turbulator that came with it. However, I'd like to know if my radial is a pre 2009 model before I embark on hours of turbulator on and off tests to see which runs best. I checked with Goetz last year but he never got a response from Moki on my serial number (#150181) and age of the motor. I bought it used. Any tell-tale signs of the year model? I have the old ignition(s) that came with the engine, both the blue and tophat, but mine has been converted to a ch ignitions. Don't know if they'd help with age determination or not.
Also, have many had issues with the APS 380 pumps burning up? While running my engine, the pump started smoking and the servo connector was too hot to touch... This was on about the 3rd tank of fuel and running on a 2s Life. Cool downs between tanks. I'm looking into a new pump so I have fresh gear in the plane before maiden. Idle rpms were about 900, and max rpm showed to be around 4300-4400 before I noticed the pump smoking.. Is this about right? Any help would be great so I can mod my firewall and hopefully find out if the turbulator is worth trying. Thanks, Mike |

It Will Be mounted into a P47 meister scale 102" wingspan....the prop recomiendes for warbirds is the 26x18, right ?? Can somobody tell me whats the best prop for this P47?? And about oil syntethic and maintenance?? Thanks a lot |

Guys I'm looking at purchasing a New in box Moki 180 with pump flex exhaust tubes and a 4" Tru turn spinner at an unbelievable price, but guy will only except a wire transfer. Does anyone on here have any dealings with a vcat or Bob Jenkins.

As a new uninformed Moki owner, I subscribed to this thread three years ago to try and learn as much as possible. I’ve never contributed; only read and learned. However, after reading your post, I feel compelled to get involved. I’ve purchased many and sold a few items on RCU in past years with great success. I would be weary of doing business with anyone who will only accept one mode of payment. As one modeler to another, be careful. |

Use some psychology; ask the questions that lead to ensuring you both want to benefit...
If the seller obfuscates, become more and more antsy cause you're trying to look after both your interests - then bail. But do the legwork. it could very well be the best deal. Trust...but verify. |
I tried, he will except partial payment, that still leaves me taking the chance. He's only willing to use wire transfer, the address he gave comes up as a real estate listing, vcat who responded to my listing and recommended I contact the seller has a suspended account, seller didn't give a phone when asked, he has no trader rating or feed back from any transactions. He's asking $2200 for a new in box with extras, that should have sold the moment the words left his mouth. Too many uncertainties. Thanks to all for your support.
