Rick,

If you're up for it, tearing off the existing covering and replacing with Solartex is the thing to do. I haven't seen anything that matches the stock covering in color or texture. Check out Paul's Stringbag on p. 20 of this thread, his Solartex looks great and besides, it would be a chance to make your bird unique. I don't know how hardcore you are about "scale" but the Solartex would give a much more scale appearance anyway.

Paul, if you're still out there, you got any remnants of the original covering you ripped off your Swordfish? Maybe Rick could patch things up with some...

Cheers,

Chris

Chris, I see you've taken a break from the golf course.

Whoa, big surprise. Before any more ill will is built, you should all know that I heard from Singapore Hobby last night. They say they are shipping me two more wings!! If they follow through, I would say that I have been treated entirely fairly and would recommend them to anyone. We'll see if the new wings show up...

Chris, As to recovering the messed up wings, I can't see doing that as they wouldn't match the rest of the plane. So I wouldn't do that without completely stripping and starting over, and if I was going to do that I'd just have scratchbuilt the thing.

Even if I get new wings, I'll want to repair the screwed up ones (just in case), so I'll try to get ahold of Paul as you pointed out. Unless, of course, Singapore Hobby wants them back...

Ram-bro 02-05-2015 04:36 PM

So what did they charge you for the wings and shipping

RickVB 03-09-2015 03:49 PM

They didn't charge me anything for the replacements, although they asked if I wanted to purchase anything else before they shipped them (not sure if they would have included other stuff shipped for free or charged me for the whole thing). The original shipping for the kit was more than the price of the kit...

Well, it took a while, but the new wings showed up on Saturday. There are a few dings in the covering, but no holes, they look entirely reasonable. So Singapore Hobby does stand behind there products. As I said, with their shipping discount, the current total cost to the US is still about the same as VQ was selling them for the last time they had them.

So now I have to acquire and engine (and that Saito radial sure looks nice...).

I had to repair mine .....motor screech'd on take off just as I was clearing an electric fence, It stalled as I backed of the throttle, 12 kg cartwheel....lol.
Anyway I had to re cover half a wing and the rudder , tamiya aluminium paint was a near perfect match...its a war bird they were never pristine anyway.
Then I thought ....Im going to repaint the whole thing ...I'm nearly done but its worth it.

Rick, I did same some covering material when I recovered mine. It is yours if you want it.

Finally its back in the air, with its new scheme.
I did some research, and found the plane of the crew that hit the Bismarck's rudder.

Outstanding!

RickVB 05-20-2016 12:33 PM

Paul, I somehow never saw your posting until today. Even though they sent me new wings, if you pm me with an email address, I'll be glad to send you postage at least for the covering, if you still have it. It's always good to have repair material on hand ;). Thanks for following up.

RickVB 06-13-2016 04:51 PM

So Paul, out of the kindness of his heart, sent me a bunch of covering sections, way more than enough to fix the original set of wings. And he refused to even accept payment for shipping. Thanks Paul!

No problem Rick, anything to keep those beasts flying.
