Where to get scratch plans for a PT 109
Thats it! I would like to find plans for a PT109 or similar type WW2 boat. I'm looking to make it around three feet long but if I find scratch plans I can always make them to the scale I need. Thanks in advance. Jim

RE: Where to get scratch plans for a PT 109
There are several kits available for PT boats in the 3-5 foot range (I believe even Graupner has one). However, this is a scale well outside the 6" for 1/144 scale or even the 12" you would find for 1/72 scale model warship combat in actual combat clubs. There are 1/144 scale plans on the BigGunsModelWarship group over on Yahoo in the files or photos section as I recall. Caution, one version has 3/8" added for stability at 1/144 scale, but I believe both versions are there. There are also E-Boat plans there (the German version of the PT Boat).
The [link=http://ntxbg.org]ntxbg.org[/link] site has links to suppliers and other clubs, as does the rcnavalcombat site and many others, including the Big Guns group on Yahoo.
If you are just looking for a "warship-style" ship to build, there are dozens of the original plans for French ships available from one of the French historical sites listed on the NTXBG site that you can download for free as well.
If you are actually wanting to get into combat, you will find most clubs are set for 1/144, 1/96, or 1/72, largely depending on the type of ships they favor. If you are wanting to do combat, I suggest you read the Servo Magazine article on the NTXBG site (see "in the news") to "get your feet wet."
If you want to build a 1/144 scale combat warship, the Espana is a nice ship in the 3-4 foot range, though it will not rip the waves like a PT Boat. BDE RC has a laser-cut hull kit of the Tashkent, a fast Russian Destroyer Flotilla Leader that is not expensive, and makes for a nice looking ship. I don't know if it is on his web site, though. You might have to e-mail him about it.
Cheers,
Wreno
