RCV serial numbers, change to helical gears

Does anyone know what year RCV changed the design of the gears from straight cut to helical? Can I tell from the serial number that I have on an old engine?

I was amazed to see this post at the top of the list 5 months after I put it up, with no answers. Clearly there is no such thing as RCV technical support on RCU anymore. Might as well get rid of it.
