Redcat Aftershock 3.5 steering issue
Just wondering if anyone can help me out with this. I started having an issue with the steering on my aftershock. When I turn it right it goes back to center when I let off like it should, but when I turn it left and let off it goes back some, but not all the way back to true straight center. It is still turned left quite a bit. I took it to the hobby shop I bought it from and he put one of the hi-tech servos on it and changed the steering linkage to the aluminum one. He just called me and said that it is better, but it is still not going all the way back to center. Any suggestions because I know they are just going to say that it is settled in or its just wear and tear, but here is my problem with that. I bought the truck two weeks ago and the ALL driving has been done on pavement and in total only about an hours worth of driving it. Wear and tear that kind of quick seems like a ridiculous excuse to me. Any suggestions on a fix or something else I could do to fix the issue is most appreciated. Thanks.

Its sounds to me that the servo has gone bad. If you have another servo put it in and see if it does the same thing I would even go back the LHS you bought it from and try a new servo to see if that fixes the problem. RTR kits the servos always seem to be the first to go thats why its best to upgrade the servo on the rtr kits. But it sure does sound like the servo has gone bad.

Well the guy at the hobby shop did that. He put in the upgraded servo. I believe it was the hi-tech servo with the metal gears. And he changed the plastic steering arm out with the upgraded aluminum one. He said is was still not going back to true center. So maybe an even better servo than that one is needed. Other than that I don't really know what else to do.

Let me make sure I have what your saying correct. Your saying to put the servo that wasn't working back in and swap places with the the throttle servo where they both plug in? In other words unplug both the throttle servo and steering servo and plug in the steering servo where the throttle servo was and plug in the throttle servo where the steering servo was plugged in?

Thats correct on the wires but leave in the servo you have now because you said it was doing the same thing right? So it would not matter which servo since they are doing the same thing. Yes try that to see if it works right.

You dont have to plug the servo thats working right back in the receiver just the onethatsnot centering this is to check to see if its the receiver that is giving you problems and yes when you pull the throttle the servo will move but you want to check if it comes back to center.

RE: Redcat Aftershock 3.5 steering issue
ok so i'm just temporarily unplugging the throttle servo wire and plugging in the steering servo wire and using the the throttle stick to turn the wheels and see if the come back to center. So, if the do return back to center then the problem is the reciever, if they still don't return to center then it is something else.

Hey DC, the Hobby Unlimited guys went one direction with this issue but you may also clarify by watching the servo itself with the body off. Watch how theservo reacts to left and right steering input. As you release the wheel from full left or full right the servo arm should return to exactly the same position. What you described in your initial question was a little unclear regarding if the "wheels" only did not re-center or did the servo "arm" not re-center. I have had a similar type issue with my Earthquakes where the "Wheels" only would not re-center but the servo would. This was caused by some binding in the servo saver. If the the top and bottom retaining screw that holds the servo saver in place are too tight then it can pinch the unit slightly and cause a bind that may only show in one direction. I am one that checks screws for tightness very frequently and found that the servo saver Can Not be tighted like other similar body screws or limited motion will result.
