Default earthquake 8e tire options

i am looking to have other options for tires (and rims)on my earthquake 8e. i think that when i drive it on the pavement the stock tires are way too sticky and it flips wheneveri steer it. i am assuming that if i had tires on it with less grip and less nobbies it would probably have a bit more drift instead of brutal stickiness, therefore reducingthe flips and damage. i'd like to be able to swap back and forth between road and off-road tires.

Default RE: earthquake 8e tire options

the main reason the tires cause flipping is really just the scale speed. at 40mph, the truck is like a real truck doing 400mph. such a thing would always flip if it tried to turn.

now for more helpful info.
the stock tires have a tall-soft sidewall. that sidewall rolls under the tires when you turn them really hard, causing a flip.

have you tried turning down the steering rate on the radio.
flip up the rear cover and the knob on the far right will lessen how far the servo turns in relation to your input on the radio.
full steering throw is needed on dirt and low-traction surface. but where the front tires have good traction, less steering throw is needed. turn down the steering rate and the servo will turn less/slower per your input on the radio.

i know of other rims/tires that will fit. but none that will make a big difference in handling on pavement.
its a MT and the tires are just too tall to handle well on high-traction surfaces.
if you got the backdraft 8e tires/rims(pretty sure they will fit) it would handle better, but you would lose speed as the tires have a smaller diameter.

the only other thing i can think of is a set of hpi savage street tread tires.
both truck use the same size hub(just checked by putting a savage rim on my E 8E)
but the savage rim has a much different offset than the 8E. this makes the tire sit closer to the chassis.
not sure how well this would work on the front.
anyway, here is the ebay link to those tires: http://cgi.ebay.com/HPI-Savage-Glued...item2c5a81705e

14mm. same as the traxxas t-maxx/e-maxx and the hpi savage's
the backdraft 8e is 17mm.

i screwed up here guys. sorry.
when i tried my savage tire on the 8E, i put it on and turned the wheel and the other wheels turned. so i thought it fit.
but the 8E has a 12mm hex, and the corners touched the 14mm hole of the savage rim just enough to make me think it fit good.
so those tires you ordered will not fit
tomorrow i will look into putting 14mm hex's on the 8E. most of the tire options the side needed for the 8E are 14mm hex rims.
sorry for my mistake.

Hey Sherwood, I have those tires and rims here in my store. I will try them on one of my customers trucks and let you know how they do. My guess is it still is going to flip

Kurt-
if they don't fit, do you have any similar tires that would fit? i am also looking for some dark gray or black rims as well. please let me know.
also, is it confirmed that the earthquake 8e has 12MM hex?

so i have decided that i am going to switch over to the 17mm hubs so i can fit hpi savage tires on my earthquake 8e.  there is such a great selection i fugured it was a no brainer.  let me get this straight though.....speed will not be affected as long as the tire diameter is the same or close to the stock 8e tires, correct?  sorry if this is a stupid question.....

no such thing as a stupid question. we all learn new stuff everyday on here(like when i learned that the stock hex was 12 and not 17 like i told you...)
anyway, as long as the tires' diameter is the same, the speed will be the same. the size of the wheel hub has no effect on gearing/speed.

Sherwood, I just tried a set of the HPI's PL tires that I have here in stock and they will clear on your truck with the 17mm kit installed. Kurt

James you do know what ever I sell you as a spare you will never break right. That's why it is good to keep another truck as backup
