Crankshaft Locking Tool
I have a Aftershock 3.5. I heard some weird clutch noise so I took the clutch bell off to investigate. The shoes were messed up as in the pins that they sit on were bent at an angle. Ordered new clutch shoes and flywheel. While waiting for parts to arrive, I read up on how to get the nut off the crankshaft. Holding the flywheel still, I put a socket on the nut and started to loosen it. Low and behold, the flywheel still stationary but the crankshaft was turning with the nut. Ok, found out about a crankshaft locking tool. Waited 2 more weeks for that.
Now the problem is that once I took off the pull start, took out the 4 screws that hold the backplate off, it won't budge. Is there any special step I'm missing, other than brute force? I don't want to break something.
Thanks in advance, Gesagen

The trick to a piston lock is to GENTLY screw it in with just your fingers. Don't use a tool or it'll punch right through the piston. They are all I use and have never even put a scratch on a piston.

RE: Crankshaft Locking Tool
I do happen to have that tool, as it is a great timesaver. However, the flywheel was just loose enough for it to slip. Thus I needed to either get the piston or crankshaft locking tool.
I did manage to get the engine backing plate off and use the crankshaft tool, and it worked like a charm. Replaced all needed parts and reassembled it.Took it out this morning and it runs awesome now!
Thanks to all that chimed in to help. Have a great Memorial Day Weekend!
