Volcano S30 Clutch assembly
Hey,
Igot my first Nitro RCa few weeks ago. Ifired up the engine for the first tank of break-in, and let it idle happily. Toward the end of the tank, the engine bogged down and stopped. Icounldn't turn it over with the pullstart, even with the glow-plug removed. I've since been out of town for almost 3 weeks, and the engine has sat jammed full of nitro. Itook the clutch off today in preparation to return the engine for a replacement, and managed to turn it over with a hex wrench, breaking the vapor lock. The engine is loose enough to start with the pullstarter, but Ialso removed the exhaust manifold and the inside is caked with orangeish dried out nitro(well, Iguess it's nitro). Do Ineed to clean this in some way, or will the oil in the fuel and some after-run oil take care of it? The engine is still under warranty, but Ireally don't want to damage it.
I think Ihad the LSNset too rich during the first tank, so does anyone know the factory settings for a Redcat SH .18 so Ican set it properly for break-in? Also, Ipulled the starter several (maybe 10-15)times to loosen up the engine after breaking it free with the cross wrench. Would that have caused any damage to the engine this early in its life?
Anyway, now Ican get the engine to move, Idon't remember how to put the clutch back together. Iwhite plastic part with the spring just slides on, and the metal part with the teeth (clutch bell?) slides over that. Then, there are several washers that go somewhere, and Idon't remember what to do with them. If someone has pictures of the assembled clutch attached to the engine, facing the shaft so Ican see the washers, that would be great. Ishould have some pics of the parts Ihave tomorrow, because Iknow this descripion is rather vague.
Many thanks,
Kristoffer

Get out your manual and look at the exploded view. That's what the manual is for, if you don't have the manual you can download it [link=http://www.allaboutfunhobbies.com/index_files/manuals.htm]here manuals[/link].

Those washers are shims to take some of the slop out of the whole assembly. They'll go between the e-clip and the clutch bell. Put as many in there as it takes so there's just a tiny bit of play if you move the clutch bell laterally.

Many thanks. Idon't recall seeing an exploded view in the manual, but I'll check to be sure. Anyhow, Igot it shimmed properly and all reassembled.
Thanks again,
Kristoffer
