Default How the hell that piece broke?

Hello,
I went to my LHS this morning because the owner wanted to see my XB-E in action.
He jumped at a height of 3 feets and landed on the front at an angle of maybe 65 degrees and then we noticed the buggy wasn't 4x4 anymore because one of the Diff Joint Cups (07145) exploded.
Do you think it was a bad luck or that piece is weak?

The owner of the LSH will pay for the replacement, that's not a problem.

I've seen the drive cups all hogged out in Aftershock, Earthquake and Backdraft, both nitro and electric but not broken like that. I think they're just soft steel.

May have been a defect in the casting, it's hard to say. I've seen them break like that on savages before, and seen it happen on Associated too. It's just a luck of the draw. It's how the cards fall, ya know?

It had probably been notching itself out a bit for a while, and then the impact separated it completely.

After each season, i notice mine goes from being a straight slot, to a notched slot, where it wore out.  they aren't easily replaced either..   the last time i just put in a spare diff rather than worry about replacing it lol.

I've broken 2 on my XB, first time I was full throttle landing a jump, second was a normal jump but I think I stressed both of them with first.  Felt dumb both times and put new cups on.  If you change one, change the other, it'll probably break soon after.

Already ordered a kit, only 16$ + tax.

Are they easy to replace?

It looks like you were getting a notch already in the cup. Once that starts, it gets weaker and weaker until it snaps. The new ones are failry easy to re-install, but you ahve to take the diff apart. Take the time and put new diff fluid in, around 4,000 is what I use.

The diff cups are usually the weak point in any large scale.
